In this guide, we'll show you how to repair, modify, and paint power armor. We will also show where the magazines that give various options costume colors.

There are five versions of Power Armor in the game: Raider Power Armor, T-45, T-51, T-60 and X-01. We told you where you can find it in. Here we will only talk about its operation.

Power armor is one of the most interesting aspects of the Fallout games and is often seen as a symbol of unstoppable technological advancement. But unlike previous installments, Fallout 4 gives players the opportunity to obtain their own metal armored suit at the very beginning of the game.

Since the very first installment, the Fallout series has given players the opportunity to become a metal Goliath through the use of armor, an advanced suit that is an integral part of the game series. In Fallout 4, players can change and modify elements of power armor, painting it in accordance with individual tastes and playstyle. Just as a rare classic car needs repairs and maintenance, power armor needs diligent care.

Tips for using power armor:

  • Your armor could be stolen! So when leaving it, take out the nuclear block;
  • Active activities quickly consume the charge of the nuclear unit;
  • Collect Hot Rod magazines to unlock paint schemes and perks;
  • The Science!, Blacksmith and Gunsmith skills are required to create advanced mods.

Main characteristics

Power armor protects the character's entire body. It consists of a main frame and six modules: a torso, four limb modules and a helmet. The most important part of the suit is the nuclear unit, which is required for the armor to operate. Without it, the suit turns into an inactive iron coffin.

When wearing power armor, the damage the character receives, including from radiation, is reduced. It gives players a boost in strength, which increases the maximum weight they can carry. The armor also prevents all damage from falls, allowing you to jump from rooftops into the midst of enemies.

However, don't get carried away. The nuclear unit is depleted very quickly, and even faster when running in a suit: try running a little in power armor, and notice how quickly the nuclear unit charge arrow drops. On the contrary, stealthy movement saves energy, but it is not convenient to use it all the time. As a general rule, it's best to save your Power Armor for boss fights.

Players can obtain their first Power Armor shortly after leaving Vault 111. After speaking with the one in Sanctuary Hills, travel to Concord and free the people at the Freedom Museum in the quest "". In the second half of the quest, players are given a fully functioning suit, complete with a nuclear unit.

You can use the armor as is, or you can repair and modify it. You can also buy or steal individual components, which will require a lot more effort.

Modification and repair

With good modification, power armor can turn you into a real one Iron Man. To repair and modify, you first need to find an armor service station. It's a big yellow frame next to the workshops. For example, they are in Sanctuary Hills and at the Red Rocket gas station. And as the game progresses, you will come across service stations in the most unexpected places. There are no problems with this.

By looking at the armor you can always see a list of components for repair/modification/replacement. You don't need a service station for this:

To replace modules, click “More details” while standing next to the armor (not the service station), and use the desired module from your inventory.

If there is no station nearby, then you can only replace some modules with others. A service station is required for repairs and modifications.

Power Armor Repair

To carry out repairs, stand in armor next to the service station and exit it. Next, go to the station and click “Use”.

Select faulty items and click “Repair” if you have the materials necessary for repair. Suits cannot fully function with broken parts, so repairs must be carried out regularly.

Power armor modification

To modify, select the desired module and click “Modify”. Depending on the parts you have, you will see the available upgrade options.

For each modification level, you can view the required components.

If you do not have enough spare parts, but there are items that can be disassembled into the necessary things, then this will happen automatically:

Many upgrade modules require aluminum, glue, copper, springs, etc., so take note necessary materials for their further search.

There are different types of modifications that change the functionality of power armor. Basic mods offer various levels of protection, such as resistance to damage and resistance to energy attacks. Material mods such as active armor return half the damage dealt to the attacker and provide other bonuses. Many modifications require that the costume consist of identical mods, otherwise there will be no bonus:

Different mods can be applied to different pieces of armor to activate powerful bonuses. The effects of different mods are often based on the function of the armor component. For example, hand mods improve melee combat, and leg mods affect walking speed and damage when jumping on enemies from above. The helmet can be equipped with a flashlight, a jetpack is used to increase mobility, and a Tesla coil in the torso inflicts energy damage on nearby enemies.

Browse mod options to find the best fit for yours. gaming style. To access advanced armor modification options, you must develop the Science!, Blacksmith and Gunsmith skills. For example, to create a jetpack you need the fourth levels of the Science perk! and Gunsmith.

Power armor can be painted and also receive bonuses for it. Paint options are available for every armor component except Raider Power Armor. New color options can be obtained by completing quests for certain factions or by reading Hot Rod magazines (where to find them is written below).

Nuclear blocks

As we mentioned earlier, nuclear blocks are the lifeblood of armor. These precious batteries can be purchased from merchants (costing around 500 caps each) or taken from generators, abandoned suits, and random containers in the Wasteland.

Look for them in basements, as generators are usually found there. If you plan to use power armor frequently, try to have a supply of nuclear blocks. If a block is depleted while the armor is equipped, a spare one will activate automatically.

Monitor your energy level while wearing the suit so you don't become immobilized at the wrong moment. Running, walking, and the VATS system deplete the nuclear unit. When the charge is depleted, the power suit begins to move very slowly, forcing you to leave it. If this happens during a skirmish or a quest, you will have to abandon it and return for the armor later.

On the map, power armor is shown with a helmet icon, so it is impossible to lose it.

Fast travel can be made inside power armor even with a completely depleted nuclear unit. To manually replace a nuclear block, go to the armor and click "Swap" to insert the block into the armor's inventory in the same way as changing its parts. Power armor can be stolen by enemies, so remove the power block and leave it behind!

Invest the time and effort into exploring the capabilities and modifications of Power Armor, and it will help you survive life-threatening situations and defeat difficult enemies.

How to change the color of power armor

To repaint armor, open the armor service station, select an armor component and its coloring option. When applying the Hot Rod paint to all components, Agility increases by 1 unit. Armor painting is free of charge.

How to get different color options:

  • complete the quest "Freedom's Call" with the Minutemen to obtain the Minuteman paint option for the T-45 armor;
  • complete the "Conspiracy" quest for the "Railroad" faction to obtain the T-51 variant;
  • complete the "Atomic Cats" quest to obtain the T-60 variant;
  • complete the quest "Brotherhood of Steel: Shadow of Steel" to obtain the BOS variant for the T-60;
  • complete the Nuclear Family Institute quest to obtain the X-01 variant;
  • to open red.

Location of Hot Rod Magazines

The first journal can be found near Sanctuary in the cemetery of old robots. It lies on a table inside a small concrete building:

The other is in the Garage of Atomic Cats - guys who professionally modify power armor. Find Zeke's trailer there, the leader of the Atomic Cats, the magazine lies on the table near the bed.

Armor mods can significantly improve your defensive gear. For stealth lovers, mods that reduce the weight of armor and increase the stealth rating are suitable; Stormtroopers are more likely to benefit from reinforcement for maximum protection. Regardless of playstyle, properly modified armor significantly increases survivability.

The parts that belong to the main armor sets (combat, leather, metal, raider and synth armor) have many more modification options than simple clothes. Each of them contains 2 improvement parameters: the first for choosing a material, and the second for various changes.

If you want to create maximum improvements for armor, then you should invest points in the “Gunsmith” and “Science!” abilities; the more advanced the modification, the more demanding it is both in terms of skills and components. Almost all armor modifications require glue.

Material

Most modifications to armor material affect protection from ballistic and energy damage. But there are also materials that activate special functions. The Dark Armor modification, which is available for combat, leather and metal armor, improves stealth in dark places. Brotherhood of Steel material, increases protection against radiation. All headgear associated with the main armor sets can also be modified.

Only active members of the Brotherhood who have completed the quest “Shadow of Steel” can use the coloring of the Brotherhood of Steel!

Miscellaneous

Various armor modifications add useful features. For example, BioNetwork increases the duration of drug use; pokted increase the carried weight. Leg armor can be modified to reduce AP costs when running or reduce damage from falls from heights. Hand mods will improve blocking or melee damage. Each piece of armor can be upgraded to increase resistance, but there are other beneficial effects as well. Similar modifications for different parts of the armor such as the DS Judge's lining and the Volttek guard's armor.

Lanterns

All miner's helmets can be equipped with various flashlights, they work like a Pip-Boy flashlight, only they shine purposefully forward, and do not illuminate the entire area around.

Modifications: Bulletproof layer

Bulletproof layer helps strengthen light clothes and hats to increase their protection. Unlike most modifications, the bulletproof layer is not limited to one type of item, they can be attached to both felt hat, and to sets of farm clothes.

To gain access to the Bulletproof Layer modification, you must prove your devotion to the Underground by completing the “Jackpot” task, talk to Technician Tom about these improvements.

Also, by completing the Subway task "Randolph Station", you can get the "Institute Thunderstorm" modification.

Let's see what heavy looks like combat armor when using different materials.

Many things in Fallout 4 become simple and understandable only after long hours of playthrough, so we have prepared a small guide that will help you figure it out important details. Specifically, today we will talk about armor for the main character.

Equipment in the world of Fallout 4

When traveling through the dangerous Boston Wasteland, even the most experienced explorer needs the right gear. The age-old question of where the best armor is in Fallout 4 concerns every player, regardless of level of pumping. Don’t overlook costumes that can add additional Charisma, Endurance and other attributes. Thanks to such useful equipment, you can open additional dialogues during conversations with other characters.

In addition to the best armor in Fallout 4, you can get other things to protect the main character, such as helmets, goggles and gas masks, which provide additional armor for some damage.

This guide will help you get information about the best armor and how to get it. All equipment in the article is not presented in any particular order.

T-51 power armor

The complete set is located near the Old Northern Church location. We look for the barge, deal with the terminal and take the entire set for ourselves.

It is one of the best power armor in Fallout 4. Only those players who have managed to reach level fifteen can equip it. Choosing the T-51 is best suited to completing the main quests until we meet the Brotherhood of Steel and obtain their equipment.

T-60 power armor

It is several times superior in performance to the T-51. The set is held by the Brotherhood of Steel and the Atom Cats, two factions operating in the Wasteland. To meet them, just follow the main quest. You can begin the path to joining the Brotherhood after their airship arrives, after which the quest “Fire Support” will be added to the list of active tasks. A bonus to the T-60 power armor will be an additional unique color scheme, which the player receives as a reward for joining the ranks of the Brotherhood.

It is worth saying that joining this faction is not at all necessary. We can try to get the armor in several other ways: steal it or contact Proctor Tegan with an offer to trade.

Atomic Cats have their own set with a unique coloring, which is sold in Rowdy's Hangar.

X-01 Power Armor

Responsible for the development of this set is the surviving United States Army. This power armor is the best in Fallout 4, so its lucky owners feel comfortable during almost any battle. The material used is a fairly light but at the same time super-strong alloy; the seams are reinforced with ceramic inserts.

The X-01 power armor is quite rare, which is why more and more players want to get their hands on it. In order to find it, you need to upgrade your character to level twenty-eight. If this is not done, then the armor simply will not appear in the places where it should be, and instead the player will only find the T-60 version.

The first such location that is worth a look after reaching the required level is the Abandoned Shack. We go to the basement, from where we go down to the lowest level and look under the stairs - that’s where the treasured set lies. It is important to note that this option does not have right hand and left leg.

In another location, in the Customs Tower, a little west of the mark there is a building with a sign 35 Court. We go up to the roof and find another X-01 armor set of the third type. But in order to get it, we will have to bypass the security. We do the following: we make our way into the room with robots and press two buttons that should open the cabinet. Interestingly, this armor set used to be a little buggy - it had appearance T-60, which confused the players.

We move on to the third location, where you can find the complete X-01. This time we go to the Military Checkpoint towards South Boston. On one of the streets there is a terminal with a fairly high level of complexity - this is what we have to hack.

And finally, we move towards the Training Grounds National Guard- the fourth and final location. We find a bunker, after which we go inside and find a power frame with an incomplete set of X-01. The composition usually varies, but there is almost always a chance to get a full set for the whole body. As for the helmet and limbs, it depends on your luck.

Where can you find good armor in Fallout 4 if you left it unattended?

This advice will be useful for those players who are not used to carrying the same exoskeleton with them everywhere. In the new part, you can no longer hide your power armor in some closet and return to it later. So what should we do if the suit’s recharging is low or we just want to leave our bulky exoskeleton aside and walk around the Wasteland without it? In this case, you can simply throw it wherever you want - the location of the kit is always displayed on the game mini-map, which makes searching much easier.

Repairing power armor

Frequent use of the exoskeleton leads to wear and tear, which is different from how simple equipment works. In this case, it is necessary to resort to timely repairs, which are carried out at special stations - they look like yellow vertical frames, somewhat reminiscent of part of a forklift from the movie "Aliens".

To start repairing, just exit the power armor not far from such a structure and go to the improvements menu by clicking on the cloud that appears. The only condition for successful repair is a sufficient amount of steel, so do not forget to stock up on the necessary material.

Far Harbor Diving Suit and Marine Wetsuit

This set may not be the best non-power armor in Fallout 4, but it's still useful to have in your wardrobe. Both sets are additional content from the released DLC.

Get to the scuba suit in Far Harbor pretty hard. To do this, you need to complete several tasks, but you don’t have to worry that the final prize won’t justify your efforts - the kit eliminates the need to use sea perks. Such an underwater suit will be able to automatically protect the character from exposure to radioactive substances and provide him with an unlimited supply of oxygen.

There are several ways to obtain a marine wetsuit in the game. One of them is to go to the Children of Atom base and purchase the necessary kit from the merchant Kane’s shop. Another way is to free receipt wetsuit, which becomes available after completing all the hacks in the main story quest.

After we do this, we go to the coast of the island and far from it, under water, we find a trace from a cargo container. To avoid the consequences of radioactive particles, we recommend pumping up your character by special means. By the way, in the same place you can get hold of a Tactical helmet and several elements of additional armor.

Marine Kit

Another one from the addition that is not a power one. In total, it is presented in three basic types and one legendary. All the kits are sold by various merchants, so instead of a long search, you can simply spend your savings. Several parts are located along with the marine wetsuit, hidden in the cargo container, which we talked about just above.

Basic armor is divided into: Zealot, Stormtrooper and Inquisitor. All sets differ from each other in various modifications, so the answer to the question of which armor in Fallout 4 is better depends only on the preferences of the players themselves.

If you don’t want to spend money, then there is a chance to get a Marine set absolutely free. To do this, you need to continue the storyline of the Far Harbor quest and hack DiMA's memories. We receive the necessary quest with the three locations indicated in it and go in search of parts of the armor.

In Fallout 4, the clothing situation is quite confusing. If you don’t take it into account, but talk only about casual wear, there are two options - full suits or component armor, consisting of separate elements for the limbs, torso and head. Some suits can be worn UNDER parts - for example, the suit from Vault 111.

Full suits usually have simply “no” protection - they are often worn by game characters whom you kill in the story. More reliable protection from different types damage (physical, energy and radiation) is provided by composite armor, but finding them is no less difficult than understanding what exactly they offer and in what combinations.

Countless raiders, shooters, super mutants, merchants and other people can find various options for armored, soundproof, lead, reinforced, enameled and other types of armor, looking at which, some players lose the desire to understand all these intricacies. Let's help with this.

We are looking for legendary enemies

From merchants you can buy armor, or its elements, marked “Legendary” - indicated by an asterisk to the right of the name, which has one or another unusual property, such as increasing the rate of recovery of action points, reducing damage by half when falling from a height, or reducing damage by 15% from robots (in total there are more than 20 such properties for armor). This armor can also be obtained from randomly encountered legendary enemies in the game. Especially in insects.

However, you can try to reduce this randomness to a minimum and look for a meeting with such enemies purposefully. To do this, there are many locations available on the map, for example, National Guard Training Site, Jamaica Plain, Supermarket and many others that do not say “CLEARED”. That is, you have not yet killed all the living things there, or after your clearing, the location was again populated by enemies.

When approaching a location, save the game, enter it, find a legendary enemy, defeat him and see what weapon or armor he gives you. If you don’t like the property, you can load the save and try again, since armor drops and properties are randomly generated! Or not save, but then it should take a few game days, so that opponents appear in this location again, after which the above actions can be repeated again.

Note also that there is a mod that increases the frequency of appearance of legendary enemies (at least, this is intended - after installing it, with a 20-fold increase in the number of legendary enemies, I stopped seeing them at all). Additionally, there are console commands that can assign any legendary ability to any weapon or armor. But this cannot be used by players on PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

This way, you can tailor your gear to suit your playstyle: some people like to get more shots in VATS mode, while others prefer to be able to deal more damage to Super Mutants or get a boost to S.P.E.C.I.A.L.

However, in this case we are talking about composite armor of six components, and we are interested in what is worn underneath them. At the start of the game this is the Treated Vault 111 Jumpsuit.

There are also interesting outfits that increase two by one point, such as the synth hunter uniform or the army uniform (+1 to strength and agility).

There are also variations of the basic clothing types, like the Dirty Army Uniform, etc., but the Hunter uniform is more interesting, since it already has resistance to external influences. Army uniforms can be found at the Marksman mercenaries, at the National Guard Training Site, or in Jamaica Plain.

Ballistic polymer fabric

So, we have decided on the basic clothes that we are going to improve. Now we need to learn how to do this on the workbench to improve armor. For this it is necessary, which is inevitable during the course of the main storyline. There are a lot of people in the Underground, but we are interested in the PAM assault robot.

For PAM you need to complete several quests related to opening intelligence department caches. On the Internet, opinions on exactly how many quests need to be completed vary. I did three PAM quests to find caches, but even before them, the quest “Mercer Station” is given, in which you need to install two simple machine gun turrets in the “Zimonja Outpost” settlement. I also did two quests for Dr. Carrington (he also lives in the Subway headquarters) - “Boston at Night” and “Kill List”, and several quests for technician Tom to install MILA devices on the roofs.

Sooner or later, a character named Drummer should speak to you in the Underground and tell you that Tom wants to talk to you. Apparently, these quests can be completed in any order and their number itself can be a random number.

As a result, technician Tom has to talk about the intelligence department and its coolest technologies. After this, you can buy armored clothing from him, and we will gain the ability to create ballistic polymer fabric on suitable types of clothing. For example, the hunter form initially has a defense of 30-15-15.

However, after applying a class 5 bulletproof layer to it, the protection increases to 140-125-15.
