A green pea costume for a boy is interesting and unusual. It is not often possible to perform such a role at a holiday. This means that you need to approach the choice of costume ideas responsibly. There is no need to raid stores to find the best outfit. Every mother can make her own polka dot costume. The article will talk about how to make an outfit with your own hands.

There is one obligatory condition - the suit must be bright Green colour. Dress models may vary:

  1. An option based on a green cap and vest, as well as basic clothing in suitable shades.
  2. Model consisting of overalls and a hat.
  3. Costume with head mask, trousers and vest.

Making a pea costume for a boy with your own hands

Consider an option based on a cap, vest and basic clothing. To complete this outfit, you do not need the skills of a professional seamstress. The patterns are quite simple; no complicated measurements are required.

Costume materials

To make peas you will need:

  • Green fabric. Satin or lining fabric would be ideal, but if you don’t have those, you might want to reconsider your wardrobe. Perhaps old curtains or the hem of an out-of-fashion dress would be ideal.

By the way! It is better to use fabric that will not wrinkle. Boys are very active and inquisitive. It is impossible for some of them to sit quietly on a chair even for 5 minutes. The costume must remain presentable throughout the holiday.

Crafting tools

The set of tools for making the costume is simple.

Just a minute! The only difficulty may be the sewing machine. If you don’t have it in the house, then this fact is not a reason to refuse sewing. The model does not require a large number of seams. You can do them manually.

To make a polka dot costume yourself, you will need:

Step-by-step production of the main part of the costume

The basic part of the costume consists of a T-shirt, shorts and a cape. T-shirt and shorts can be selected from casual wear child. Any knitted garden set will do. The main thing is that clothes should be plain.

On a note! Polo T-shirts look great. They are thick and look elegant. And most often they are monochromatic.

When the T-shirt and shorts have been selected, we begin to make the characteristic elements of the costume.

This work includes several steps:

Stage 1. Making a vest. To do this, you need to put any children's T-shirt or T-shirt on the green fabric. Cut out 2 parts along the contour. Then they execute shoulder seams. The edges are processed. There is no need to sew the sides. Satin ribbons are sewn on the sides (2 on each side). These ribbons serve as ties for the vest and hold it on the child. This design is convenient because the vest does not slip, but also does not hinder the movements of the young actor.

Stage 2. When the vest is ready, you can start decorating it. To do this, you need to cut out peas from white paper. The diameter is at least 5–6 centimeters. They are painted over with green gouache. It is better to choose a paint that is not several shades darker or lighter colors capes. When the peas are dry, they are sewn with a few stitches to the vest from the armhole along the entire length, like buttons on a jacket.

By the way! If mom is good at drawing, then instead of peas you can draw a whole pod and also fix it in the middle of the cape. But the pea pod must be large, otherwise it will get lost against the background of the costume.

Stage 3. When everything is ready, the clothes need to be ironed.

Polka Dot Hat

Even after trying on the basic model, the boy will turn into a mischievous and beautiful polka dot. But the image will be incomplete. You can make it perfect with a hat. Besides, it's not difficult at all.

Any boy will be delighted with such fun on his head. He definitely won’t want to take off his hat during the holiday.

How to complement a polka dot suit

Any outfit can be decorated with completely invisible details. They are not striking, but make the image complete and unusual. For “peas” such details are:

A children's party is always fun and interesting. Every child looks forward to it. The baby will appreciate the polka dot costume, made by mother’s caring hands. The holiday will undoubtedly become one of the most memorable moments of his childhood!

Let's start making our costume

DIY pea costume for a boy

Making a pea suit for a boy with your own hands will also not be difficult, although there will be several more elements in it. So, our costume will consist of four parts: a hat, a vest, pants and golf. Of course, we won’t sew a golf or a T-shirt ourselves - we’ll take ready-made ones, light green or as a last resort white. But to make pants and vests you will have to remember your sewing skills. It is better to take fabric for sewing that wrinkles little, with a slight sheen, for example, satin. A suit made of felt or fleece would also look good.

A costume party in kindergarten will become more fun and magical for the child if you come up with a bright and original masquerade image. You can buy a costume for Harvest Day ready-made, or you can show your imagination and make your own version. We will tell you about the main methods of making a costume, what details and makeup to complement it with.

Making a pea costume

Pea is a cheerful character. Characteristic features of the image: various shades of green, elongated oblong lines, plant details - round peas and long spiral tendrils.

You can do it yourself in three ways:

  • style casual clothes
  • sew
  • make from cardboard

Casual Suit

Let's start with the simplest thing - styling ready-made clothes. If your child has green leggings and a turtleneck in his wardrobe, the polka dot costume is almost ready. Complete this set with a cap and plant elements: pea circles, leaves, tendrils. The peas can be made flat from cardboard or green pompoms can be sewn on from floss threads. For details, go to the details section.

Sewing a pea suit

If you're ready to make an outfit, there are two main ways: make a symbolic cape or a full-fledged set: trousers and a shirt.

The cape can be of two forms: an apron or a cape. They are made in approximately the same way.

You will need:

  • green fabric (choose wrinkle-resistant fabrics: silk, satin)
  • threads
  • scissors
  • thin green ribbon for ties
  • fabric for decoration
  • centimeter
  • chalk, a simple pencil or soap - mark the fabric
  • pins
We take measurements. Try on:
  • shoulder width for apron
  • length of the future apron: from the shoulders to the area just above the knees
  • length from wrist to neck for cape

We mark the dimensions on the fabric and cut out the neckline.

For an apron, mark on the fabric the width of the shoulders, the place for the neck, and the length of the product. The shoulders and neckline will be on the fold of the apron. Pin the fabric along the contour - this will make it easier for you to cut it.

Cut out the neckline. Make a cut near the neckline on the back so that the child can pull the apron over his head.

Attach ribbons to the sides at the waist and decorate the front side.

For a cape-cape you only need one size - the length from the wrist to the neck. This is the radius of the product. Measure a circle on the fabric, secure the fabric with pins along the edge of the product to make cutting easier.

Cut a neckline in the center and a slot for putting on. No strings are needed for the cape.

The costume is almost ready, all that remains is to add details.

If you are ready to spend more time and effort, sew a set: panties and a blouse. Clothing should be loose and not restrict movement. Gather the waistband and bottom of the trousers with elastic bands or laces.

The sleeves can also be gathered, leaving small ruffles. Pants can be replaced with shorts.

Making a costume out of cardboard

If work is over sewing machine If you prefer working with paper, make your own pea costume from thick cardboard. The easiest way is to cut out an elongated blank with pointed ends from whatman paper or a large cardboard box, paint it and decorate it with peas. Tie ribbons on the sides. They will be tied behind the back.

We complement the image with details and accessories

Let's figure out how to make peas, a hat and how to decorate shoes.

To differentiate peas from cucumber or zucchini, you need peas. It could be flat applique made of cardboard or fabric of a different shade than the main element of the costume.

You can also make voluminous peas from fabric and synthetic padding or from green pom-poms.

Prepare small round pads from fabric, fill them with synthetic down, foam rubber crumbs or other filler and sew along the edge.

For pompom peas you will need:

  • green floss
  • scissors
  • winding base

We'll tell you how to make small pompoms using a fork. Wind the threads around the fork, the more turns, the tighter and fluffier the pompom will be. Tie the pompom in the center, remove it from the fork and trim the edges. Fluff the pompom and trim the shape with scissors - you're done.

Peas can also be combined into a beaded collar with a paper base.

The cap can be of any shape:

  • cone (most similar to a pod)
  • beret
  • headband or headband with a picture of peas

To decorate the hat, use plant elements: leaves, pods made of fluffy wire and peas.

Shoes can be supplemented with cardboard overlays in the form of two leaves with circles. They will be attached with an elastic band to the sole.

Makeup for a pea costume

To complete the look, apply floral designs to your face. Leaves will do different shapes, curls - antennae.

The main detail of the outfit is a cape-cloak made of satin or artificial silk. You can make it plain green, or you can decorate it, as in the photo. Let's take the skirt option as the basis for the pattern.

It is better to sew trousers for an outfit on the basis of regular pajama pants, adding elastic at the bottom. Or simply make the cape longer and complement the outfit with green tights or socks.

I wouldn't say that the polka dot suit is popular at the moment. new Year costume, so mothers rarely sew it for their children. But on autumn matinees In kindergarten, children can show off in a polka dot suit.

If there is none, then brown will do, beige, black color.

Suitable for a boy trousers green or turtleneck color, for a girl you can also take skirt.

Pants can be sewn by making a pattern according to any existing trousers of the child.

A textile simple for a suit lining. She's shiny, which is good for fancy dress, and cheap.

From above you can do cape. We take a rectangular piece of fabric, make a slit for the head, and sew ties on the sides.

We make peas from circles of fabric. We cut out a circle, assemble it along the contour, stuff it with cotton wool or padding polyester. Sew from top to bottom onto a turtleneck or cape.

All that remains is to do head decoration.

The simplest thing is to print out a picture of polka dots, cut out along the outline, laminate and attach to a round headband or elastic band.

New Year- it's always a hassle. But there are even more of them if you are parents small child. Constant holidays and costumed matinees force dads and moms to show their maximum imagination to create different images. Today we will tell you how to make a pea costume with your own hands.

What you need for a pea costume

Let's imagine peas. This is a green pod with large light green peas in the middle. Tendrils stick out from the top of the pod. Approximately these components should be present in our suit.

There are quite a lot of manufacturing options. The easiest way to create a polka dot costume for children is to find a matching T-shirt and trousers in green and decorate them with decorative elements. Make a hat separately.

You can take a more complicated route, buy fabric at the store and sew a pea suit for a boy yourself. We will talk about this method further.

The main components of the future costume are a vest and a cap. If you have trousers or shorts of a suitable shade, use them; if not, you can do it as shown in the photo below.

The main material required for work is fabric. For a suit, choose a non-fraying, stretchy fabric. Fleece is ideal for a hat, and knitwear or velor for a vest. Choose matching threads. To make peas, choose a material of a lighter shade - light green or yellow.

Constructing a vest pattern

Since the vest plays a central role in the suit, it needs to be given maximum attention. The first step is to take your child's measurements. The proposed DIY pea costume will be size 32, which corresponds to the age of a child of 6-7 years.

To create a pattern, measure the following indicators in your child:

  • Back length to waist level - 28 cm.
  • The length of the desired vest is 50 cm.
  • Shoulder length - 10 cm.
  • Half of the neck circumference is 14 cm.
  • Half chest circumference - 32 cm.
  • Half waist circumference - 30 cm.
  • Armhole depth is standard 16.5 cm.

The beginning of the drawing is point A. From there, measure down the length to the waist (28 cm) and put a mark. From point A, draw down a distance equal to the total length of the vest (50 cm or more), draw a straight line. To the right of point A, you need to set aside half the waist circumference plus 3 cm (33 cm). This will be point A1. Another line emanating down from point A is the depth of the armhole (16.5 cm).

Divide the distance AA1 in half and draw a vertical axis. Place point G2 at the intersection of the armhole depth and the vertical axis.

Draw out the armhole. To do this you need to calculate its width. Divide half the chest circumference by 4, add 1 cm: 32: 4 + 1 = 9 cm. From point G2, measure 4.5 cm to the right and left. These will be points G and G1. Draw vertical lines up from G and G1. At the intersection you will get points P and P1.

Draw the back neckline. To do this, at a distance of 5.2 cm from point A to the right, raise the line up 1.5 cm. Connect this point with A in a semicircle, and draw an oblique to P, as shown in the pattern picture.

The front neckline is drawn a little differently. Point A1 needs to be raised 2 cm and from this resulting mark measure 5.2 cm to the left and down. Connect in a semicircle. Carry the oblique to P1.

The bottom of the vest needs to be sharpened a little. The level at the front and back should be greater than at the sides.

Sew a vest

We grind the bottom, sleeve armholes, and necklines. We sew the two resulting parts together on the sides and shoulders. The pea costume for children is already half ready. It is advisable to insert a zipper or sew buttons on the side to make it easier to put on.

You can wear a white or green turtleneck underneath. All that remains is to decorate the middle of the vest with balls so that the pod looks like itself.

Creating peas

  1. Cut semicircular elements approximately 10 cm in size from the fabric.
  2. Sew all ends together, leaving only the bottom. Go around the perimeter with a needle and thread, lightly stitching.
  3. Turn it inside out and fill the middle with padding polyester or cotton wool.
  4. Tighten the thread. It turned out to be a ball.
  5. Now sew the balls vertically to the front of the vest.

This stage is simply necessary to make the pea costume believable. Photos of similar images are presented below.

Create a hat

The headdress is the central element of the entire image. A DIY pea suit will be incomplete if left without a proper top. There are two ways in this matter: make another pod out of cardboard or sew a fabric hat. Let's consider both options.

A boy's pea suit will go perfectly with a hat like the one shown in the picture below.

The length of this “crown” should be approximately 40 cm. The height on the larger side is 20 cm, on the smaller side - 12. Cut out two crescents from cardboard. Cover them with green paper.

The entire structure must be attached to the main headband, which will be placed on the head. It’s very simple to make: measure the circumference of your head and cut out a strip of cardboard that size. Glue it together and get the base for the pod.

Secure the green crescents on the larger side. For reliability, you can sew it. Place the rim inside and connect the crescents on the smaller side. Place peas in the middle. Secure them with glue or thread.

Create a skirt from cardboard or paper on top. Make mustaches from soft wire, which can be purchased at any hardware store.

Cap No. 2

We almost figured out how to make a pea costume. We offer the latest version of the cap.

To make it, take a square of green felt. Fold the fabric into quarters.

One side should remain free, and the one with two folds should be stitched together. You should get a cap. Don't rush to unfold the material. First you need to form pointed edges, like leaves. The cuts should be deep - up to half the length. To be more precise, you need to measure the distance from the crown to the forehead and transfer this figure to the length of the cut.

Determine where the face will be, and bend the adjacent leaves so that they do not interfere. Secure them with thread. Attach strands of soft wire to the top of the hat.

The DIY pea suit is fully prepared for use. Good luck to you in your work, and show your imagination, because a costume is a creative matter. And one more piece of advice: involve children in the work; they will certainly enjoy creating such a masterpiece with you.
