Grapevine tray, master class. Newspaper tray: workshop

Greetings to lovers of needlework on the site needlework stories!

Today I present a photo report on weaving a large round tray of newspaper tubes.

Part one: weaving a round bottom, the central part.

To weave a tray, I took tubes of office paper, 16 pieces. They are not very long, but I will not increase them yet. I arrange them this way.

Next, I connect two working tubes and start weaving with a rope of two tubes, first I braid 4 tubes, so 3 rows.

Then I’m divorcing two tubes, in this case, I twisted 4 rows.

Now I breed in one tube and weave 3 rows.

Part two: a string of three tubes.

With a clothespin I mark the beginning of weaving.

The leftmost working tube passes over two tubes of the base then goes under the third base and is displayed upstairs.

Those. weave only with the leftmost duct. Continue weaving.

I close the row, for this I stop weaving in front of the first base tube marked and now weave not the extreme left, but the extreme right over the two main ones, behind the third. Next, the middle working tube, over the two main, for the third. And in conclusion, the extreme left, in the same way. I hide the working tubes from the bottom of the tray and cut them off.

Part three: the middle part of the tubes of different colors.

Since in the previous row the working tubes closed the row and were cut off, I add new working tubes. One light, the second dark. Scourge rope.

I close the central part again with a rope of three tubes.

Part four: a string of three tubes.

The article will tell you about how to create beautiful crafts from improvised material - newspaper tubes.

Weaving newspaper tubes for beginners step by step: weaving technique, master class, photo

Weaving from newspaper tubes has almost completely replaced weaving from the vine in recent times. The fact is that getting this material is much easier than breaking willow branches or looking for a vine for weaving. In addition, you don’t have to spend money, because even if you don’t have a bunch of TV shows or advertisements in your house, you can always ask your relatives.

IMPORTANT: A thin long tube spins from a newspaper sheet, which is the main material. The tube is fastened with ordinary PVA or dry pencil glue. Moreover, it is not necessary to lubricate the entire sheet. This can only be done in the corner of the newspaper.

In the case when you should lengthen your newspaper tube, you simply insert the blanks one into one and put them on the glue, continuing to weave. So you can stick the tubes almost to infinity, creating both small caskets and large vases with human height.

There are several weaving techniques., which depend on which product you create and which you want to make the pattern. In weaving, it is important to use patterns and patterns so that the pattern is beautiful and neat. In cases where the “sucker” doesn’t get threaded, you should use ordinary metal knitting needle or crochet.

At the end of weaving (for example, on the edge of the product) you should twist the twigs so that they bend inward. There you can put them on glue or wrap them so that the end is not visible. The finished product is usually covered with paint. To do this, it is advisable to use acrylic or spray paint, it is resistant to moisture. After drying, it is advisable to open the product with one or two layers of varnish.

How to make newspaper tubes for weaving?

Any weaving begins with the preparation of the material, which means that many newspaper tubes should be prepared in advance. To twist a beautiful and even tube, you should use a long wooden skewer (for barbecue) or a thin metal knitting needle.

It is this subject that you lay the foundation of the newspaper sheet and twist the tube. Due to several layers of paper, it will be thick enough and suitable for creating wickerwork. Thoroughly glue the corner of the newspaper with glue so that it can firmly adhere and the tube is strong.

Where to start weaving a basket of newspapers?

After you have prepared a sufficient number of tubes, you should take care to choose the shape of the product: square, round, rectangular, heart and so on.

You should decide what the bottom of the product will be. There are two options:

  • Cardboard bottom
  • The bottom connected from the tubes

The cardboard bottom is suitable for small items (caskets and boxes). Large ones (trays, boxes, boxes) should be woven independently. Any weaving should be done in strict accordance with the scheme. To weave was neat, you should fasten the ends of the tubes with clothespins, pinching them to the form.

What and how to paint newspaper tubes for weaving baskets?

It is better to color newspaper tubes after the product is fully completed. If you color them in advance, you risk violating their good flexibility by making them not malleable, which will completely ruin the weaving.

The finished product should be coated with acrylic or machine paints. Such paints are moisture resistant and do not leak upon contact with water. Paint can be applied in any way: with a brush, sponge, spray gun, spray gun, airbrush. Acrylic paints mix perfectly and you can always choose the right shade and color from them.

IMPORTANT: After the paint has dried, the product should be opened with a layer (or two layers) of varnish. This will allow the product to gain glossy gloss and become much stronger.

How to make, twist newspaper tubes from newspapers and paint?

Spin newspaper tubes

For those needlewomen who take up the process of twisting newspaper tubes for the first time, this business may seem very complicated and almost impossible. But over time, having gained a hand, one can achieve pretty good results when the newspapers, as it were, curl themselves up into tubes.

So, here is a list of materials needed to curl newspaper tubes:

  • Newspapers
  • PVA glue or stationery glue stick
  • Knife, stationery knife or scissors (whichever is more convenient)
  • Thin needle 0.5-1 mm or skewer

The algorithm for spinning newspapers into tubes:

  • We take a newspaper or a stack of newspapers.
  • We fold all the pages in such a way that they lie clearly under each other.
  • Fold the newspaper in half.
  • Again we make sure that the edges of the newspaper do not go out one after another.
  • Cut the folded newspaper in half.
  • The resulting newspaper halves are again folded in half.
  • Cut the halves of newspapers in a new fold.
  • The resulting quarters of the newspapers are sorted into two piles.
  • We put newspaper strips with white edges in one pile - the tubes twisted from them will be pure white.
  • We put strips with letters in another pile - the tubes twisted from them will be printed.
  • We take one of the pages of the newspaper.
  • In the lower right corner we lay the needle.
  • The needle is placed at an angle of 25-30 degrees.
  • Holding the tip of the newspaper, we begin to twist the needle, wrapping, at the same time, paper on it.
  • We try to roll up the newspaper as tightly as possible.
  • Having twisted almost the entire tube, we glue its edge with glue and glue it to the tube.
  • We take out the knitting needle.
  • We give the finished tube 15-20 minutes to dry.

It is worth paying attention to the fact that the final version of the finished tube will have two ends that are different in thickness - on the one hand the tube will be thicker and on the other thinner. Such a structure of tubules is necessary in order to "build up" them. “Extension” is a procedure based on the creation of long tubes. It consists in the fact that the thinner end of the other tube is “screwed” and “glued” into the thicker end of one tube. Thus one long newspaper tube is obtained.

Instructions for twisting newspaper tubes: Video

You can already paint over newspaper tubes after the fact - when the product is completely ready. However, this option is only suitable for cases where the craftsmanship is performed in one color. If the product is conceived in different colors, it is advisable to paint the tubes in advance.
You can stain newspaper tubes with any coloring matter:

  1. watercolor
  2. gouache
  3. acrylic paints
  4. aerosol cans
  5. stain (letters will appear)
  6. food colorings
  7. eyebrow and hair dye
  8. green
  9. basma
  10. wood paint
  11. colorless paint with the addition of color (in this way can be done on
  12. basis of one paint at once several different shades of paint)

How to color newspaper tubes: Video

  • It’s worth immediately highlighting two types of dyes, which are the most popular among newspaper pipe weaving masters — these are acrylic paints and a water-based stain. Both of these dyes, made on the basis of water, allow you to thoroughly and densely stain the paper. At the same time, during weaving, no paint remains on the hands and surface, which is important in this process.
  • In order to make the product more durable and waterproof, it is desirable to varnish it even at the stage of the tubes. The ideal option is when the varnish is applied in 2 layers.
  • By the way, in the case of varnish, you can save on paint - the color can be added directly to the varnish.
  • Stained tubes must be thoroughly dried in the oven, in the sun, or in front of the oven.

How and where to start weaving newspaper tubes?

  • Often the design of newspaper crafts consists of a bottom, guides and woven tubes.
  • In the form of guides, several tubes of the desired length are used - the length directly depends on the height of the craft.
  • There can be several tubes for weaving - for beginners it is better to start with one tube.
  • The bottom of the craft is preferably woven - so the product will look more attractive. With this type of weaving, the core of the bottom is first made, the ends of which will become the posts of the craft in the future, and then tubules are braided around it, creating a round (or other shape) bottom.
  • But you can make a solid bottom - it is created from two circles cut from thick cardboard. The vertical posts of the craft are glued to the lower circle (they need to be flattened a little at the attachment point), and from above they are fixed with another circle with glue.
  • As a basis for crafts, you can use a jar, a vase, a glass or other container, suitable in size. The base is installed on the bottom, and the racks are fixed in its upper part with clothespins for evenness of the product.
  • When the bottom, the base and the guides are in place, you can begin to braid them with a paper vine.

Ways of weaving newspaper tubes for beginners: step by step instructions, master class

For beginner needlewomen, the easiest way to weave from a newspaper vine is suitable - single with a solid bottom:

  • We take the finished frame of the future crafts.
  • One of the tubes, which will act as a vine, is slightly flattened at the end.
  • Glue the tapered end of the vine to the bottom of the craft.
  • We start the vine for the nearest guide (with this kind of weaving, there should be an odd number of them) outside.
  • We bring the vine inside the crafts.
  • We braid the next guide from the inside.
  • We bring the vine out of the craft and wrap it around the next guide outside.
  • Thus, we continue in a circle around the entire height of the crafts.
  • In the process, the vine will end, so we build it along the way.
  • We make sure that the vine lays down tightly, and the racks stand straight.
  • Having filled your hand a little, you can try to weave several vines at once (2-3).

Summing up, it is worth saying that there is no need to be afraid to start something new. Even the most famous needlewomen were once newcomers. They also did not succeed all at once, they were also upset and intended to abandon their hobby. Nevertheless, over time, everything fell into place - the tubes began to curl faster, the patterns became more complex and ornate, and the crafts were simply mesmerizing. So, dear readers, go ahead, study, fill your hand, and mastery will surely overtake you!

Brown newspaper tubes are almost indistinguishable externally from wooden products. The newspaper weaving technique allows you to reuse unnecessary materials, and also helps to preserve nature. The edges of such a thing are made of various shapes, they are bent in different ways and form unusual patterns, using the experience of specialists in weaving baskets from vines.

Features of working with newspaper tubes

The main difference between the technology of weaving trays from newspaper tubes and rods is that working with wood materials requires a special attitude and certain knowledge. You need to be able to properly harvest them, process and store them. To bleach the vine and give it shape, you will need a lot of free space and sunlight - such conditions are difficult to provide in an ordinary apartment. Crafts from newspapers look like wooden, but make them much easier. No need to prepare material for a long time - just cut the paper into strips of the desired length and width, twist them and paint them in the color you like.

Newspaper Products

Products come in different shapes and sizes, they are created for many purposes. On a wide Easter tray of newspaper tubes, you can place Easter cake and eggs, or present it as a gift to loved ones. A deep tray with handles is used to bring coffee to your loved one and Wicker products add an ethnic touch to the interior and fill the space with cosiness. In addition, this is a simple and economical way to make various beautiful containers for storing little things, decorating them to your taste.

Weaving Options for Beginners

For beginners who have recently learned about this technique, simple products are better suited. Weaving options for newspaper tubes for beginners, described in simple terms step by step, most often relate to making vases or bottle design, because it is easier to shape the product. The hardest thing is to make the bottom of the craft. There are several ways to make it, but it will be easier for beginners to start by creating a basket, where you can use an ordinary cardboard box as a frame. Their weaving from newspaper tubes for beginners is described step by step in various master classes. Having mastered the main, you can begin to create a tray. Try to make your own hands a deep tray with handles in which you can put a cup of strong coffee with something sweet and bring it in the morning to your soulmate, giving her a charge of vivacity and good mood.

Newspaper tray: workshop

To work, you need to cook:

  • 2 sheets of cardboard
  • colorless acrylic varnish,
  • white water-based paint,
  • gouache,
  • water
  • pencil,
  • a brush
  • pVA glue,
  • ruler
  • scissors,
  • regular sheet A4,
  • sharp clerical knife,
  • 35 cm long knitting needle
  • a thick book or other item that can be used as a press,
  • newspapers.

To make the tray, start with the cardboard base: mark and cut out two 15x20 cm rectangles. In the center of the A4 sheet, place one of the shapes and circle it to understand where to apply the glue. Then, using a brush, apply a thin layer of glue inside the rectangular base and lay the cardboard on top. At the sheet, cut the corners with a ruler and a clerical knife. Glue the edges of the paper with glue and bend it, firmly pressing it to the cardboard. Make another same detail. Place both blanks for the bottom under the press until the glue dries.

Tube making

At the next stage of the “Tray of newspaper tubes” workshop, you need to mark the bottoms with a pencil and a ruler, marking on all sides at a distance of 2.5 cm. Now you need to make newspaper tubes: the frame will be made of them. For work you will need newspapers, a clerical knife and a knitting needle.

  1. Fold in half a sheet of newspaper into 4 equal parts on the short side, and then divide the fold line. You should get strips about 5.5 cm wide. 80-100 pieces of such strips will be needed. To create the frame, you can also use office paper.
  2. Take one of the strips and apply a thin layer of glue on the long side. Screw the strip tightly onto the needle starting from the angle opposite to where the glue was applied.
  3. Press the corner so that the tube does not unwind, take out the knitting needle and wait until the glue completely dries. Make 30 pcs.
  4. Squeeze the sharp end of the tube and lubricate it on one side with glue.

Now stick the tubes along the marks to the bottom of the tray, pressing them well. Then, having filled the entire perimeter, apply glue to the bottom, carefully lubricating the fastening points of the tubes. Attach another cardboard part on top and place the blank under the press for at least six hours.

Tray assembly

The next step in the workshop “Tray of newspaper tubes” will be the assembly of the product. While the workpiece is drying, make about 50 more tubes.

  1. Glue the two newspaper tubes together in length. Bend this part to get two equal parts, and start braiding the posts from the corner.
  2. Grow the tubules when necessary, and continue to braid the tray, moving in a circle.
  3. At the end of the third row, fix, glue and cut off the ends of the braiding tube.
  4. Stand with the next row in a row and bend it up. Continue in a circle until you reach the last tube.
  5. Insert the last rack of the row into the loop at the bottom, formed by the first rack, and bring it up.
  6. Start braiding the racks with a double tube from one of the corners. At the end of the fourth row, fix, glue and cut off the end of the braiding tube.
  7. Fold the stand to the right, to the next stand, and then lower it down. Cut the end, stepping back two centimeters from the fold, coat with glue and tuck into the weave from above.
  8. Continue in a circle.

Tray Handles

Handles for the tray can be done as follows: in the corners from the narrow side, insert two tubes covered with glue and bend two tubes towards each other, making a loop. Leave 5 cm from the fold and cut off the ends. Coat the edges with glue and insert into the base of the tray. Begin tightly wrapping the handle with a newspaper tube. On the horizontal part, braid eight each two ducts separately, then fix the ends with glue. Repeat all steps on the opposite side of the product.

Product design

It remains to prime and color the tray in the color you like. For primer, mix water, glue and white emulsion paint in white in equal proportions, and then apply this composition with a brush on the entire surface of the product. Then add gouache to the primer and paint over all surfaces except the bottom. When the paint has dried, cover your creation with two layers of acrylic varnish so that it can be washed. The master class “Tray of newspaper tubes” is completed. Use the product, delighting yourself and loved ones with a beautiful and practical hand-made thing.

newspaper tray

For work, we need:

newspaper tubes;

scissors;

double-sided tape;

Furrowing the vast expanses of the country of masters, I came across very useful advice: when designing the basis for a wicker bottom, you can use double-sided tape. This greatly simplifies the start of work, namely, fixing the main ducts

I just cut a small piece of scotch tape and stick it on the tubes. Then, on this piece of tape, glue the second pair of racks. And so each row to the desired number of racks of the base.

3.

Scotch tape is not visible, the tubes are held, and will not go anywhere from the appointed place. I really liked this technique, and I began to use double-sided tape in other moments
4.

There are several options for how to start weaving a round bottom, but I start like this: I choose a pair of racks with which I will start weaving. To them on a double-sided tape I attach two working tubes. Then weave an ordinary pigtail (rope) in a circle. (In the photo, black is the cord from the camera, do not pay attention)
5.

Starting weaving in this way, the transition to the next row will be invisible. Be sure to note the little counter from which I start to weave (usually I put on office gum), so I can control the number of rows.
6.

Another little trick. I periodically wet the working tubes with water. Wet "vine" to weave is much easier, the rows are smooth, and the weaving itself is neat and dense.
7.

It is important to moisten only the middle of the tubes. If you wet the edges with rhinestones, then when building, you may encounter a problem (a new tube is badly included in the previous one).
8.

And in the process of weaving, I slightly moisten the building site from the sprayer, putting a cloth in it so that the main racks do not soak.
9.

Next, I change the color of the tubes. On a white background I plan to make decoupage from napkins with the selected pattern.
10.

After I wove about 10-12 rows, the distance between the racks became about 2 cm. To prevent weaving, it is necessary to reduce the distance between the racks. With the help of a knitting needle, I prepare a place for an extra stand and insert a tube there without any problems. Glue can not be strengthened, since with a sufficiently dense weaving, the racks will hold securely.
11.

I continue to weave with white tubes, spreading racks and evenly distributing the distance between them.
12.

This is how it looks in the weaving process.
13.

After the width of the white strip has become such as a fragment of the picture on a decoupage napkin, I again change the color of the tubes to the main one. When the diameter of the bottom became the way I planned, I raise the racks up.
14.

I like to decorate the walls of the tray with a rope of three tubes. I start, as usual, putting or sticking a tube over the counter.
15.

This is how it looks close. Depending on the diameter of the tray itself, I by eye determine the height of the side, and accordingly the number of rows. Specifically, this tray I have is 35 cm in diameter, and the wall height is approximately 3-4 cm i.e. 4 rows of rope from 3 tubes.
16.

I finish simply, without unnecessary bends, cutting the racks tightly to weave.
17.

Here is the tray and ready.
