Coffee has a fairly strong coloring property. This is due to its special composition. A mask based on it will contain tannins in a fairly high concentration. Together with essential oils, they help give dark strands a more saturated shade. Therefore, coffee hair coloring is perfect for brown-haired and brunette women.

As a result of this procedure, one of the following effects can be achieved:

  • Dark brown hair will take on an attractive coffee shade.
  • The red shade of brown-haired women will become more muted.
  • For brunettes, coffee will give their locks a special shine.

Blondes are better off not using this dyeing method. It will most likely not be possible to achieve uniform color distribution.

Coffee acts as more than just paint. This is also an excellent nourishing mask. This product contains the following substances:

  • Caffeine. It gives shine to curls and charges them with energy.
  • Polyphenols. Allows you to strengthen your hair and make it stronger.
  • Antioxidants. Gives elasticity.
  • Carotenoids. Enhances natural shine.
  • Chlorogenic acid. Provides protection from ultraviolet rays.

Basic rules for the procedure

In order to achieve stunning results at home, you must adhere to some rules:

  1. For coloring, you can use only natural coffee. A soluble product is unsuitable for these purposes.
  2. The grains should be crushed as finely as possible. This is the only way to create the most favorable conditions for the rapid release of coloring pigments.
  3. You should not paint over gray hair this way. The effect of such a procedure will be very short-lived. It is enough to wash your hair a couple of times and the gray hair will become noticeable again.
  4. Coffee coloring lasts on the hair for about a week, so the procedure will have to be done regularly.
  5. In order to avoid the sticky feeling that can be observed after coloring, it is necessary to add a little conditioner to the composition.

Simple dyeing methods

In order to quickly give your curls a coffee tint, it is better to use a traditional recipe. The procedure will consist of the following steps:

  1. Pour six tablespoons of ground coffee into a ladle or small saucepan. Fill with one and a half liters of clean water. Boil the mixture over low heat for about 25 minutes.
  2. Apply a small amount of conditioner to clean strands.
  3. Gently pour the brewed coffee over your hair at least 10 times. Try to distribute the composition along the entire length using a comb.
  4. Wrap your head in a warm towel. This will make the chemical dyeing process much faster.
  5. The mask should remain on the curls for about half an hour. Then the composition can be washed off with warm running water.

If you urgently need to give your hair a new shade, then it is best to use this recipe. Prepare the strong drink the traditional way. Use a spray bottle to spray your hair. After you have applied the first coat, comb your hair. Then spray your curls again. As a result of this treatment, the strands are saturated with coloring pigment in the same way as with conventional dyeing.

  9. You can keep the composition on the strands for several hours without fear that it will spoil the structure of the hair shafts. The longer, the more saturated shade you will get.

Who is coffee hair coloring suitable for: effect for blondes, brunettes, fair-haired, redheads

Coffee only darkens the hair by a few shades, but it can color it unevenly. Depending on the initial shade and condition of the curls, completely different results are possible:

Coffee hair coloring is usually not suitable for blondes, since the strands are colored unevenly, and the effect of burnt hair is possible. However, you can try on one strand, and if the tone suits you, very carefully apply the mask over the entire length. In extreme cases, the color will wash out in about a week, so if you really want it, you can try it. But don’t do your first coloring before especially important events where you need to look perfect.

  • Coffee goes well on brown hair, usually without redness. Darkens by one or two shades, depending on the concentration and exposure time. You can get very interesting tones of coffee with milk or honey-coffee shades.
  • On dark hair, coffee reveals slightly reddish tones, makes the color deep, rich, and a healthy shine appears the first time. In Eastern cultures, which color their hair with coffee, most women dark hair, and the coffee paint fits perfectly on them. If you want a slight color update, coffee is a great choice.
  • Red coffee dyeing helps give your hair a deep copper tint, making it a little dark, but at the same time with deep tones, the hair immediately begins to shine. This is a way to slightly dim the natural brightness of a redhead, but without losing your individuality.
  • Gray hair can be given some coffee tint, but usually this is for one time, before the first wash. Or the color will still be pale. You won't be able to become a brunette with the help of coffee, but this is an opportunity to make the image a little more interesting, slightly change the natural shade without harming weakened strands.

When coloring for the first time, always test the color on one inconspicuous strand! And do this a few hours in advance to be sure of the result, and keep the dye on for the same amount of time, but this time on your entire hair.

Coffee hair coloring recipes

There are two fundamentally different ways dye your hair:

  • Pure coffee infusion is applied to already washed hair and dried, preferably in the sun. This gives the hair color and shine.
  • Coffee is used as a component of masks, and then they wash their hair with shampoos. You get an additional effect from the mask; your curls become soft and silky.

In most cases, coffee is the base ingredient, and a variety of components are added to it, as in other hair masks (yolk, cognac, henna, kefir, oils, etc.). With the addition of coffee, all masks will color your hair. All proportions and volumes are given for middle length, for long ones, increase the number of components!

To remove aromas of coffee, cognac, eggs, etc. after coloring, add to the mask essential oils lemon, orange, or any other. A couple of drops is enough for medium hair!

  • Masks are applied to dirty, dry hair.
  • Take a thin comb or a special brush. You can either separate your hair into strands, as they do in a salon, or dye the roots first, and then apply the product to the entire length.
  • Wrap your head in film or put on and tie a bag, as the mass will drain.
  • Additionally, wrap your hair over the film with a towel.
  • To make the paint take on faster, warm up your head, wrapped in a bag and a towel, with a hairdryer, this will speed up the reaction. Don't sit in a draft: the more heat, the better.
  • Leave the paint on for at least half an hour, preferably an hour or even two. The longer you keep it, the brighter and darker the color will be.
  • Rinse off with warm (not hot!) water and shampoo. You may have to repeat twice. It is better to use environmentally friendly shampoos without SLS. If you used grounds, you will have to rinse for a long time to remove small particles.

Coffee hair coloring: reviews from those who have already tried it

Anyone who cares about their hair and wants to make its color darker or deeper should try coffee coloring. The tint washes off in about a week and does not cause any damage to the hair, so it is absolutely safe.

Anna, 28 years old:

I’ve been dyeing my hair with coffee for 2 years now, I have my own shade – light brown, mousy. Coffee makes it chocolatey and looks very interesting. I apply a mask with conditioner for half an hour, twice a week, before washing my hair. The hair does not deteriorate, silky, soft. I am very pleased!

Marina, 33 years old:

At first I used coffee simply as a rinse, as everyone recommends - for blondes - chamomile, for brunettes - coffee. After a while, I noticed that my hair not only became better, but also the color was richer, deeper, slightly chestnut, and shimmered in the sun. Sometimes I apply masks with cognac, they make my hair grow faster.

Lena, 49 years old, private hairdresser:

I recommend coffee to my clients who just want to “refresh their color.” In practice, I was convinced that it does not harm any types of hair, and the curls invariably become better. It works like a tonic, but without any chemicals. And most people really like the light coffee aroma afterwards!

There are practically no negative reviews about coffee hair coloring on forums. Perhaps the unevenness of color in blondes due to insufficiently high-quality dyeing of the strands.

Conclusions:

  1. Coffee is great for coloring hair, darkening it by 1-2 tones. On light brown hair it looks more chocolatey, on dark hair it gives deep shades of brown, on red hair it looks darker copper.
  2. Blondes and gray hair should use coffee as a dye carefully; there may be risks of uneven color.
  3. The natural dye does not harm the hair, and even vice versa: it restores and strengthens it, stimulates growth, makes it stronger and more elastic, and fights split ends. You can either rinse your washed hair with the infusion, or apply masks with balms, conditioners, and oils to dirty, dry hair.
  4. If something goes wrong, the shade will wash off in about a week.
