Men's knitting mittens: basic knitting course with description

An excellent addition to a man's winter wardrobe are warm mittens. Especially if they are knitted according to an exact pattern.
Men's mittens even the most inexperienced knitters can perform using detailed master class With step by step photos. Knitting this accessory can be done with the simplest knitting; you can use patterns of ornaments or relief patterns.
The main thing is to understand the principle of constructing a pattern and understand the sequence of work.

Knitting men's mittens

Initial preparations At the very beginning of work, you will need a simple pattern, which will save time and make knitting more productive. To create a pattern for men, just trace your palm on paper. In this case, the man’s thumb is outlined separately, and the other four are outlined together. To ensure that the mittens fit comfortably on the hand, the pattern is made carefully.

The next step is to calculate the knitting density. Here you will need a control sample and a little mathematical calculations. Without such a calculation, knitting may turn out to be incorrect, and mittens for men will have to be remade. If this is the first time you have to do this step, then a detailed master class will come to the rescue. After calculation, multiply the resulting density by the circumference of the hand. Now you have the number of stitches you need to cast on.
The easiest way is to continue knitting on four tools. The cast-on buttonholes are transferred to four knitting needles in equal quantities, respectively. They should be evenly distributed on each of the knitting needles. We close the circle and continue knitting by analogy. For beginner knitters, it is recommended to knit a cuff for a man with an elastic band. If you know how to knit socks, then you need to do the same steps as when knitting a sock cuff.

The elastic band is made to the required length. It depends on the size of the hand and the desire of the man. Continue knitting the next 6-8 cm stockinette stitch. Although, right now, you can already start drawing or decorating using graphic schemes. Knitting continues exactly to the line thumb.

Let's move on to the next stage. It is necessary to leave loops for knitting the thumb. Their number when knitting mittens for men is very easy to determine. It is equal to the number of loops on 1 knitting needle minus 4 buttonholes. This amount is transferred to a pin or a special knitting needle, and new loops are cast on for the bridge between the finger and the palm. You can simply remove the thumb links with a thread of a contrasting color.

Continue knitting the main part of the mittens with the selected pattern up to the little finger line. Now comes the time to design the toe of mittens for men. Most often this is done in the form of a triangle. On the 1st and 3rd knitting needles, the links are reduced at the beginning of the strip, on the 2nd and fourth - at the end. Do not forget that the first loop on 1 and 3, as well as the remaining one on 2 and 4, is knitted without decreasing. Then you get beautiful chains at the ends of the cape. Continue knitting until there are 2 buttonholes left on each tool, they are pulled together and carefully fastened from the wrong side.
Knitting the finger We begin knitting the thumb. The loops from the additional thread or pins are transferred to the working tool. On the second, the same amount is collected from the jumper.

Knitting the finger is similar to the main part. A fabric of smaller diameter is knitted with four knitting needles. Decreases are also made in the form of a triangle from the middle of the nail. The second mitten for men is knitted in a mirror image.

Many needlewomen prefer to knit men's
. In this case, there are two options. In the first, two parts of one mitten are knitted separately, and then carefully sewn together with an inconspicuous seam. In the second option, everything is somewhat more complicated. Therefore, to make men’s mittens beautiful, it is better to use step-by-step photos and also study the corresponding master class. If difficulties do not frighten you, then even the first mittens can be knitted more complex pattern than garter stitch. To do this you just need to select suitable schemes patterns and knit a control sample so as not to make a mistake with the location of the repeat.

If such options are not yet within your capabilities, then the following will help you diversify your knitting:

  • melange thread;
  • multi-colored stripes;
  • sectional yarn.

And when you have enough experience, then any pattern or ornament will no longer be a problem. In fact, mittens for men can be knitted in an original shape, with a beautiful set of the first row, with elite yarn. And then it will not just be a warm thing, but a fashionable modern accent in his suit.

Nothing will warm your man’s hands more than mittens knitted by the woman he loves. Even a beginner will be able to knit original, stylish and, most importantly, warm men's mittens with knitting needles without much difficulty. Knitting patterns for such a product are different, choose what you like.

Not all representatives of the stronger half of humanity wear mittens men's knitting. Diagrams and descriptions of such products allow beginning needlewomen not only to choose suitable option, but also to easily knit warm mittens that will harmoniously complement the male look.

Advice! Before you start knitting mittens, measure the width of your palm and its length. Then knit a fabric measuring 10x10 cm from the selected yarn and determine the knitting density. If you are knitting mittens with a jacquard pattern, weave the threads only from the wrong side.

Necessary materials:

  • yarn white half-wool – 100 g;
  • yarn of blue color half-wool – 50 g;
  • sock knitting needles size No. 5.5, No. 6 – set;
  • pin.

Step-by-step description of the process:

  1. We will knit beautiful and stylish mittens for men using a jacquard pattern.
  2. In our work we will be guided by this scheme. When knitting a jacquard pattern, the color of the thread should be changed in accordance with the pattern. One square corresponds to one knitted loop. It is most convenient to knit a product from several balls.
  3. Let's take a closer look at knitting the left mitten. The right one will be knitted in the same way, except for knitting the thumb. Here you need to take into account the principle of mirroring. The thumb stitches on the right mitten should be left on the left side.
  4. On knitting needles size 5.5 we cast on 36 stitches with blue yarn. We distribute all the loops onto four knitting needles so that each knitting needle has the same number of loops, that is, nine. We close the set row into a circle.
  5. Let's start knitting the cuff with a 1x1 or 2x2 elastic band. We knit 18 rows in height, alternating faces. and purl. loops. Please note that when knitting in the round, all rows are knitted the same way.
  6. In the 19th row, we change the color of the yarn and use white threads to knit two rows in stockinette stitch.
  7. From the third row we begin knitting the pattern according to the pattern. We knit with a regular shawl pattern, that is, in one row all the loops will be knit, and in the next - purl.
  8. On the first two knitting needles we knit the rapport shown in diagram A 9 times.
  9. On the 3rd and 4th knitting needles we knit 18 repeat stitches according to pattern B.
  10. Vertically, the pattern shown in pattern A consists of the first and second row, and we knit the pattern repeat according to pattern B in two rows, and from the third we begin knitting according to pattern C.
  11. Starting from the second row of knitting the pattern, we increase the stitches. We do this on the second knitting needle, knitting two from one loop. The addition is performed as follows: we knit a knit stitch, but do not remove it from the left knitting needle, but knit it again. Only after this do we drop the knitted loop from the left knitting needle.
  12. We knit the second row according to the following pattern: we knit 5 knit stitches, we knit the next loop crossed from the broach, then we knit two knit stitches again, and the next one will be crossed from the broach. We knit two more facial loops. There are 11 loops in total.
  13. We knit the third and all subsequent odd rows exclusively according to the pattern, as the loops lie.
  14. The repeat of the fourth row looks like this: we knit 5 knit stitches, knit the next one crossed with a knit stitch with a broach, 4 knit stitches and again a knit stitch crossed with a broach. We finish the row with 2 knit stitches. This results in 13 loops.
  15. In the 6th row we knit 6 knit stitches, knit the next one with a crossed knit stitch from the broach, knit 6 knit stitches and one knit stitch crossed from the broach, 2 more knit stitches.
  16. The repeat of the eighth row looks like this: we knit 5 knit stitches, knit the next one from the broach with a crossed knit stitch, knit the next 8 loops with knit stitches, then knit a crossed knit stitch from the broach, knit two more loops with knit stitches.
  17. In the 10th row we knit five knit stitches, knit the next one from the broach with a crossed knit stitch, knit another 10 knit stitches, knit the next one from the broach with a crossed knit stitch, two knit stitches. It turned out to be only 19 loops.
  18. We introduce the loops that we added into the pattern and continue knitting according to the pattern.
  19. In the 12th row we knit the loops in the following way: five faces. knit stitches. There will be 14 loops left on the needle, we transfer them to a pin and leave them.
  20. In the next row, above the wedge loops, we cast on two loops and continue to knit the mittens in a circle according to the pattern.
  21. We continue knitting in this way until the product reaches 16 cm in height. We focus on the height of the little finger.
  22. After this, we proceed to knitting the rounded toe.
  23. In the first row we knit one knit stitch, knit the next two loops simultaneously with a knit stitch, tilting to the left, then 12 knit stitches, knit the next two simultaneously with a knit stitch, tilting to the right, knit 2 knit loops, and knit the next two loops simultaneously with a knit stitch, tilting to the left, knit 12 knits. loops and knit the next two stitches together. loop, tilting to the right side. We finish the row of faces. loop.
  24. We knit the second row and all subsequent even rows without decreases only with facial loops.
  25. In the third row we will again perform a decrease according to the following pattern: we knit 1 knit stitch, knit the next two at the same time knitting, tilting to the left, 10 knit stitches, knitting the next two simultaneously knitting with a slant to the right, 2 knit stitches, knit the next two simultaneously knitting, making tilt to the left, 10 knit stitches, knit the next two at the same time, tilting to the right. We finish the row with a front loop.
  26. In the fifth row we knit knit 1. loop, knit the next two at the same time, tilting to the left, 8 knits. loops, knit the next two at the same time., tilting to the right, two knits. loops, knit the next two at the same time, tilting to the left, knit 8. loops, knit the next two at the same time, bending to the right, 1 knit stitch.
  27. In the 7th row we knit according to the following repeat: 1 knit stitch, the next two we knit at the same time with a knit stitch, tilting to the left, 6 knit stitches, the next two we knit simultaneously with a knit stitch, tilting to the right, 2 knit loops, the next two we knit simultaneously with a knit stitch, tilting to the left, 8 knit stitches, knit the next two at the same time, tilting to the right, 1 knit stitch.
  28. In the 9th row we knit 1 knit stitch. Next, we knit two into one, tilting to the left, 4 knit stitches, two at the same time knitting with a slant to the right, 2 knit loops, knitting the next two at the same time knitting, tilting to the left, 8 knit stitches, knitting the next two simultaneously knitting, tilting to the right, one face loop.
  29. Using the same pattern, we continue to knit two more odd rows.
  30. We break the working thread, throw it over the remaining loops and tighten it well.
  31. Crochet the thread to the wrong side. We tie the loops set aside on the pin to the desired height.
  32. Approximately from the middle of the nail on the thumb, we begin to decrease until there are 4 loops left on the knitting needles. We close them in the same way as described above.

What can you give to a dear man: husband, father, son, friend? The most valuable gifts are those that are made with love with your own hands. They are the ones who reflect the true attitude, all the warmth and kindness that you want to give only to those closest to you.

IN winter period a good gift The stronger half of humanity will receive warm and stylish men's clothes. Let's look at the features of knitting men's mittens - how to choose yarn, make calculations and choose a pattern.

How to choose yarn and knitting needles?

For winter knitting perfect fit wool yarn, it is very warm and windproof. However, you need to take into account the fact that it can prick and cause itching on the skin. Natural wool, which does not cause irritation, is generally very good quality and high cost. This type of wool includes:

  • The thread is obtained from sheep. The products are light, soft and very warm. Merino wool yarn is often used for children's products, as it does not cause skin irritation.
  • Alpaca. Alpaca wool is soft and warm and is rarely dyed, as the animal's fur is rich in color - from pure white to black.
  • Cashmere. This is the undercoat of high mountain Tibetan goats. Very valuable wool, soft, delicate, warm, but pure form cashmere yarn is not produced. Cashmere is added in different percentages to other woolen threads, improving its quality.

Men's mittens can also be knitted from mixed types of yarn: wool + acrylic or mohair + acrylic. These types of thread are warm due to natural wool, but not scratchy due to acrylic.

Choose the color based on the preferences of the man to whom you want to give a gift. As a rule, men prefer discreet colors: black, gray, brown, dark blue, khaki.

To knit mittens you will need a set of five needles. For convenience, you can use limiters so as not to “lose” the loops. Choose the size of the knitting needles in accordance with the recommendations on the yarn label or one size smaller - this will make the mittens tighter and therefore warmer. Don't take the tool bigger size, the knitting will be loose and, most likely, the product will be blown through by the wind.

When the yarn and tool are chosen, we will learn how to knit men's mittens.

Let's do the calculation

In order to knit mittens for a man, you will need from 100 to 130 grams of yarn.

Necessary measurements for creating a pattern:

  • Hand circumference (the widest part of the palm).
  • Hand length (to the tip of the middle finger).
  • The length of the hand is to the tip of the little finger.
  • Length of the hand to the beginning of the thumb.
  • Thumb length.

Using the measurements obtained, draw a pattern.

How

After calculation, we cast on the required number of loops and distribute them between four knitting needles. Men's mittens are knitted from the cuff. It is done with an elastic band, your choice of 1x1, 2x2 or some other option. The length of the cuff is chosen arbitrarily, the main thing is that it is not too short.

After the cuff, we begin knitting the body of the mitten up to the thumb. This place can be done with stockinette stitch, or you can use some kind of embossed stitch or along the outside of the mitten.

Having tied it to the base of the thumb, you need to leave room for it. To do this, remove the loops from which the finger will later “grow” onto a pin or additional knitting needle. If there are 10 loops on the pin, then you need to cast on 10 loops on the working knitting needle and continue knitting in the round.

We continue to knit men's mittens with knitting needles until the mitten covers the little finger. From this place you can start decreasing.

The shape of the mitten can be semicircular or pointed. For the first option, the decrease occurs evenly, by knitting two loops together, for example, every 8 loops.

For a pointed edge, decreases are made at the end of the second needle and the beginning of the third, as well as at the end of the fourth and the beginning of the first.

The thumb is knitted on three needles in the round. They begin to close when one and a half centimeters remain to the tip of the thumb.

Pattern diagram

What patterns can be used when creating men's mittens with knitting needles? There are numerous schemes, but are they all suitable for men? One of the simplest and yet most suitable patterns for this knitting is pearl (or it is also called “rice”). This is an alternation of knit and purl stitches going on top of each other. The drawing turns out to be quite large and embossed.

Jacquard pattern

Do jacquard and knitted men's mittens go together? Jacquard patterns contain not only flowers, there are many options for Norwegian patterns that can suit men.

Mittens knitted with jacquard turn out to be warmer and denser, since they are knitted in two threads, and besides, you can come up with a pattern yourself, and the item will be truly unique.

Knitting men's mittens with jacquard needles requires care; do not tighten the threads too tightly so that the fabric is not too dense, but do not leave the weaves too loose. Otherwise, when putting on the mittens, the broaches will be felt with your fingers.

Everyone wants to stay warm in winter, but most often many people neglect warm mittens. This is especially true for men. Therefore, in order for your beloved man to keep his hands warm, you can try knitting excellent warm mittens for him. Of course, mostly men prefer to wear gloves - it is more convenient and easier to use. But if a woman shows concern and knits warm mittens with her own hands, then the man will certainly appreciate such a gesture and will be happy. Knitting patterns for men's mittens are not complicated, the main thing is to follow step by step description, this applies to beginners.

There are a large number of different patterns that can be used to decorate men's mittens. To do this, you just need to be patient and find time to show your concern and please your man. Over time, it will turn out better, and then you can even knit such mittens as a gift. Typically, men do not need to knit unusual patterns; simple gray mittens will not work either. You can knit various patterns to match the main color.

Product with braids

Knitting mittens using knitting needles is not something difficult. Even for those who are just starting to get acquainted with knitting techniques, knitting such a product will not be difficult. This master class presents detailed description, how you can knit men's mittens with a pattern such as a braid. Unlike women's mittens, the mittens will be plain and look very masculine. Some people think that different patterns are more feminine, but men should also look presentable.

What we need for knitting:

  • four knitting needles and one more, you can take circular ones;
  • yarn of the same tone, it is better to take wool mixture or acrylic;
  • scissors;
  • hook.

We cast on forty stitches onto the knitting needles, then distribute them onto 4 knitting needles so that each one has 10. We start knitting from the cuff, which is knitted using a regular elastic band - one knit, one purl. The height of the cuff should be 8 cm. We knit further in the circle. But on the first two knitting needles we will make a pattern - a braid, and on the third and fourth knitting needles we knit with regular knit stitches. Before crossing, knit like this - we knit 7 purls and then 3 knits. And then we do 3 knits, then 7 purls. So we knit 5 rows.

Note! We remember that on the other two we knit with front buttonholes. This is very important point at work.

Now we do the crossing. To do this, we knit seven purl stitches on the first knitting needle, and take three knit stitches to the side so that they can be strung on an additional knitting needle. On the first needle, now knit 3 from the second needle. But on the second knitting needle we knit the three that we took to the side, then we knit seven purl ones. Knit this way six times. Don't forget that on the third and fourth needles we knit with regular knit stitches. Then we do the second crossing, but after that we must mark the place of the thumb with a thread of a different color.

Then we knit in the same way until we reach the tip of the little finger. Then we begin to decrease the buttonholes; to do this, at the beginning of the first and third knitting needles we knit two buttonholes together, but also at the end of the row of the other two knitting needles - the second and fourth. We knit in this way until there is only one left on the knitting needles, then we cut the thread and pull it through each buttonhole and tighten it. Using a hook, we hide the thread inside the mitten.

Now let's start knitting the finger. To do this, we pull out the thread and distribute the loops between 4 knitting needles, but we will also add two buttonholes so that holes do not form. We knit in stockinette stitch in the round until the knitting reaches the middle nail plate thumb Then we make a decrease, as in the main part, until there are 4 buttonholes left. We remove them from the knitting needle and use a hook to pull the thread through them and pull it inside the mittens. And now our mitten is ready!

On two spokes

Another option for knitting mittens is with two knitting needles. A simple and at the same time unusual way of knitting. You can knit two parts separately, but in our master class we will learn how to knit together, but with one invisible seam. The mittens are long.

What is needed for these mittens:

  • yarn of the selected color;
  • two knitting needles;
  • knitting pin and standard;
  • scissors;
  • hook;
  • needle;
  • measuring tape.

Let's start knitting the first piece. You need to use a measuring tape to measure the man's wrist, palm length and thumb. Now we cast on 38 buttonholes if the wrist has a diameter of 20 cm. You can calculate for each wrist like this - you need to find out how many buttonholes there will be per 1 cm; in our master class there were 2 buttonholes per 1 cm. It turns out a total of 40 buttonholes, subtract 4 and add 2 edge buttonholes.

Knitting begins with a cuff - we knit an elastic band two by two. We knit 10 cm this way, it turns out 15 rows. Then we start knitting the main part, you can take thinner knitting needles. Having knitted the first row with knit stitches, in the second we add 4 buttonholes. Now we just knit 7 rows until we reach the thumb. We remember that the finger is located closer to the palm, and not to the side. Therefore, we knit this way for the right hand:

We knit two buttonholes and remove them with a pin. Now we knit 7 buttonholes for the finger, and remove the subsequent ones with a pin. It turns out that on the working knitting needle we will leave only 7 buttonholes for the finger. Next we knit with a regular stitch in height, the length of which will be the length of the finger, multiplied by two times. We return down, thereby folding the finger in half. We knit according to the main pattern to the tip of the little finger. We need to divide all the buttonholes into two. We move one half onto a pin.

Now we begin to make the decrease. Edge - one buttonhole according to the pattern, knit two buttonholes together. And when there are only 4 on the knitting needle, we knit two together and one purlwise, like an edge stitch. Knit purl rows according to the pattern. One edge, then knit, we combine two into one, knit 12 knits, again we combine two into one and one knit, edge. And so we decrease the buttonholes until there are 6 to 8 left. Now we close the buttonholes and also knit the second half. The final touch will be carefully stitching the parts together.

The mittens are knitted on five needles. This type of knitting is called circular knitting. It is carried out in a circle. The cast-on stitches are evenly placed on four knitting needles, the fifth is a free, working one. She replaces all the others one by one.

One pair of mittens consumes up to 100g. wool We start knitting with a cuff equal to the circumference of the hand. We usually knit it with a 1x1 or 2x2 elastic band. When determining the horizontal knitting density, the sample should be slightly stretched. The number of stitches cast on should always be a multiple of four.

The loops knitted on all four needles correspond to one row.

Calculation and knitting of mittens in a circle.

Knitting needles No. 2.5, hosiery knitting. Knit the pattern of the main part of the mitten - a control sample - and determine the knitting density from it, for example, 3 loops in 1 cm. Count the number of loops to start working: 3 sts x 19 cm (hand circumference) = 57 sts.

Round the result down to a number that is divisible by 4 (by the number of knitting needles) - 56. There are 14 loops on each knitting needle.

There are no edge stitches in circular knitting.

For convenience, we number the knitting needles and count clockwise (Fig. 1). On the 1st and 2nd knitting needles we knit the upper part of the mitten, and on the 3rd and 4th - the lower part (palm).

Mittens begin to be knitted from the cuff, using an elastic band, stocking stitch with an ornament, or a dense pattern with fringe. Let's start with the elastic band. The height of the cuff is from 5 to 10 cm. On 2 knitting needles folded together, cast on 56 loops and release one of the knitting needles. Then, very tightly (otherwise the loops will slip and the knitting needles will fall), knit 1 row with an elastic band 1X1 or 2X2, at the same time distributing the loops on 4 knitting needles as follows: knit the first 14 loops with the 1st knitting needle, knit another 14 loops with the 2nd knitting needle, then the 3rd - knit the next 14 and finally the last 14 stitches with the 4th needle. Thus, all 56 loops are knitted and 4 knitting needles are put into work, the free 5th is the working one. Pin a pin to the loops of the 1st knitting needle - it will serve as a guide in your work. On the 1st and 2nd knitting needles there are loops on the upper part of the mitten, on the 3rd and 4th knitting needles on the lower part (palm).

Close the knitting in a circle by connecting the thread from the ball with the end remaining from the set of loops (“tail”). There are no edge loops - this is one of the features circular knitting. Now knit clockwise along the outside of the circle with a 1X1 rib (5-10 cm), and then from the cuff to the base of the thumb we knit approximately 5-7 cm (it is better to measure by hand or depending on the size, see the table) in stockinette stitch until base of the thumb. Beginner knitters often make the mistake of trying to knit on the inside of the circle - this is extremely inconvenient and time-consuming.

For the right mitten, the hole is formed on the 3rd knitting needle (see picture), for the left one - on the 4th. Its width is equal to the number of loops on one knitting needle minus 4 loops (14 sts - 4 sts = 10 sts). It is best to use an auxiliary thread to make a hole: on the 3rd knitting needle, knit the first 2-3 loops, then knit the next 10 (hole loops) with an auxiliary thread and tear it off. Now return 10 auxiliary loops to the 3rd knitting needle and after that knit all the loops of this knitting needle with a working thread. If the mitten is knitted in stocking stitch, then you can decrease one loop on each knitting needle; for this, the first two loops of each knitting needle are knitted together. Next, knit the mitten to the end of the little finger.

Decreasing mitten loops

There are several ways to decrease stitches. Let's look at each of them.

First way. Spiral ending. On each knitting needle we knit the first two stitches together. We knit this way, decreasing the loops in all rows until there are two loops left on each knitting needle. Then we tear off the thread from the ball, thread it into a needle and, having threaded all the remaining loops, pull them together and fasten them on the wrong side.

Second way. Rounded decrease. In order to get a rounded decrease in stitches, you should knit two stitches together in the middle and at the end of the fabric on each knitting needle.

The number of rows that are knitted without decreases should always correspond to the number of stitches knitted between two decreases on each needle. Let's say we have 14 loops on each knitting needle. Let's consider the decrease according to the scheme.

First decrease (on the 1st needle) - knit 4, knit 2 together, knit 4, knit 2 together, etc. on each spoke.

Between the first and second decreases we knit 4 rows with an even fabric.

Second decrease (on the 1st needle) - knit 3, knit 2 together, knit 3, knit 2 together, etc. on each spoke.

Between the second and third decreases we knit 3 rows without decreases, etc.

If the palm is narrow, then it is better to start decreasing from the beginning of the little finger nail 2 together, 5 stocking loops, 2 together, etc., then 5 rows without decreasing, and then as in the example.

With the first and second methods of decreasing, the stitch count of the selected pattern is disrupted, so it is recommended to use them only for stocking stitch. You can knit the entire mitten in a pattern, and by the time the stitches decrease, switch to stocking stitch.

Third way. Pointed decrease in loops. We decrease in each row by knitting two stitches together on the 1st and 3rd knitting needles at the beginning, and at the end on the 2nd and 4th knitting needles, knitting the last two stitches together.

Fourth way. Smooth decrease in loops. On the 1st knitting needle (at the beginning) - we knit 1 loop, we knit the next 2 together using the transfer method, we knit the remaining ones to the end.

On the 2nd knitting needle (at the end) - knit all the loops on the knitting needle, when the last 3 loops remain, knit 2 of them together, and then knit the last one.

On the 3rd needle we knit as on the first.

On the 4th needle we knit as on the second.

Decrease stitches every other row until half the cast-on number of stitches remains on all knitting needles. After that, we begin to decrease them in each row. We collect the last eight loops on a thread and fasten them on the wrong side.

Thumb knitting

When the mitten is ready, we begin knitting the thumb.

For the thumb, you should carefully lace up the colored stitch, gathering the open loops onto the knitting needles. If the finger hole is too wide, you need to decrease one loop on each needle. We distribute the loops evenly onto three knitting needles, the working knitting needle is the fourth. We knit in a circle until the middle of the thumbnail, and then decrease the loops. The easiest way to do this is the first way. When there are 6 loops left on the knitting needles, we collect them on a thread and fasten them on the wrong side.

Using patterns in circular knitting

When knitting on five knitting needles, you can use patterns that are made on two knitting needles. Considering the features various types mating, it is advised to follow the following rules:

1. All patterns that are knitted on the wrong side of the work along the entire row with purl loops, and the next one with knit stitches.

2. In patterns where we knit even rows “as the loops look,” you should use only the record of odd rows, repeating each of them twice.

3. In the case when the pattern shifts on both the front and back sides (for example, rice knitting), we knit all odd rows as they are given in the patterns for two knitting needles.

We read all even rows from right to left, but we knit loops opposite to the signs given in the diagrams. So, when knitting rice stitch, we read the second row from right to left, but we knit a purl instead of a knit stitch, and a knit stitch instead of a purl.

Interesting models.
