Circle skirt in 1 hour (video)

How to quickly sew a simple skirt with your own hands?

You can independently sew a long, beautiful and straight skirt from knitwear or other material.. This kind of work is done quite quickly.

Work plan:

  1. First you need to choose a fabric. If you want to make a winter skirt, then the fabric should be thick. If it’s summer, then it’s thin. It is also worth paying attention to such fabric parameters as translucency. It will be very unsightly if the product shows through the skin. The piece of fabric should be long enough so that the product does not have to be sewn together from two or more pieces.
  2. Next you need to take measurements. Using a measuring tape, measure the circumference of the hips. You also need to decide in advance on the length of the product.
  3. After this you need to cut the fabric. A rectangle is cut out, the width of which should be equal to the circumference of the hip. As for the length of the rectangle, it is equal to the length of the product.
  4. The fabric is cut and then folded lengthwise. The cut edges should fit evenly against each other.
  5. The fabric should be sewn lengthwise. It is recommended to use a sewing machine. We sew the product, bending the edges by 1.5 cm. The length of the product is sewn with a zig-zag.
  6. Skirts often have belts. If you don’t want to make a belt, then you don’t need to follow this point of the plan. So, to sew it, a small and narrow piece of fabric is stitched along the edges with a zig-zag stitch.
  7. Then, you need to sew an elastic band to the finished belt. Again, if you don’t want to sew a belt, then fulfilling this point of the plan is not necessary.

This kind of work gets done quite quickly.

After the elastic has been sewn to the belt, the edges of the hem must be turned up by 1.5 cm and made sewing machine straight line.

How to sew a warm skirt for the winter?

Scheme of work:

  1. A skirt for the winter should be made of warm, dense fabric. This is the fabric you should choose in the store.
  2. Such a product should not have a low rise, so it is not necessary to measure the width of the hips. Measurements are taken in length and width. The width of the skirt is the waist area. This is the specificity of winter skirts. 5 cm is added to the waist width.
  3. To mark the desired length, a measuring tape is applied to the thigh and lowered below the knee. If the skirt is above the knee, then there is a high probability that the girl will freeze.
  4. Next, a pattern is made from paper along the radius from the hip. The sheet of paper should be large enough. A4 is not a suitable format for this. The correct pattern is a quarter circle.
  5. After this, the length of the skirt is added to the resulting radius. Thus, the length of the product is determined. The resulting length is marked with a measuring tape. A semicircular line is drawn on the paper, resembling a rainbow in shape.
  6. The pattern is then cut out. Cut out the fabric. The pattern is cut strictly along the contour, otherwise it will not be possible to sew the product evenly.
  7. After this, the fabric is folded in half several times. This makes 4 layers of fabric. The pattern is placed along the fold line, and the fabric is cut along this line.
  8. After unfolding the fabric, you should get a large circle. If this does not happen, then something was done incorrectly.

A skirt for the winter should be made of warm, dense fabric

At the last stage it is necessary to hem the hem of the product.

DIY drape skirt

Drape is a fairly heavy woolen material, which is often used when sewing skirts.. Products made from it are suitable for women of any shape.

The work is as follows:

  1. The first step is to determine the upper radius. To do this, the waist should be divided into 6 equal parts.
  2. Next, a pattern is made on paper. 2 parts are cut out of fabric. To do this, the fabric needs to be folded, and paper template circle the top with chalk. You need to cut exactly according to the template.
  3. Another radius is laid from the line, the length of which is equal to the desired length of the product. Next, 1.5 cm is deviated from the top line of the chalk contour, and 4 cm from the bottom line. Another part is cut out. The principle is similar.
  4. The parts should be stitched along the right side seam.
  5. On the left side you need to sharpen the side zipper. To do this, the parts must be ground down to the beginning of the zipper or at a distance of 1 cm before it.
  6. The zipper is sewn to the cut using a special foot. This foot is used for sewing hidden seams on a product.
  7. The unclosed section of the zipper is attached to the skirt using a sewing machine.

The bottom seam of the product is folded 1 cm and stitched using a sewing machine.

We sew a beautiful long skirt with elastic

It is not recommended to sew a long product from too thin material. To ensure that the skirt falls down, the fabric should be thick enough. It is durable and not translucent. Another advantage of this fabric is that it does not flutter in the wind.

  1. After taking measurements, the fabric is cut.
  2. After this, it is stitched along its length. The edges of the fabric must be folded 1 cm.
  3. To make a belt, it is recommended to use an overlocker. This is necessary in order to prevent shedding.
  4. Then an elastic band should be sewn to the waistband. The cut fabric is folded in half. The elastic is sewn with even stitches at a distance of 5-6 cm from the edge.
  5. To ensure that the ends of the belt with elastic are better secured when sewing, it is recommended to make zig-zag stitches at the edges.
  6. The elastic band is attached to the belt and sewn to the product.

At the last stage the hem should be hemmed.

Homemade fleece midi skirt

Work plan:

  1. The first thing you need to do is purchase fleece and an elastic band, the width of which is 1 cm.
  2. Measurements are taken. Use a centimeter ruler to measure the circumference of your hips and waist. You should also mark the length of the skirt.
  3. After this, you need to cut off the elastic band and fabric. The pieces must match the measurements! There should be 2 fabric rectangles made of fleece.
  4. Then stitched side seams. The fabric is folded with the right side inward and folded in a few centimeters.
  5. Next, a drawstring for the elastic is made.
  6. The hem of the product is hemmed.
  7. Then an elastic band is inserted into the product.

We sew a skirt in 5 minutes (video)

These are not all the ways to sew skirts at home. The method of creating them depends on the chosen fabric, the desired length, and, of course, the talent of the needleworker. Therefore, women who master the skill of sewing skirts will be able to save a significant amount of material resources and sew various styles of skirts for themselves.

This is the most winning option for any woman. It will hide all the imperfections of your figure, while at the same time giving your image elegance and highlighting your advantages. Floor-length skirts almost never go out of style and remain a favorite wardrobe item at any time. They are very comfortable for everyday wear and help us out a lot on special occasions. In this case, the status of your outfit will dictate outerwear, and the skirt can be the same. It is very convenient and practical, and sewing such a skirt is easy.

You can breathe a sigh of relief - we won’t need a pattern. We will not make any darts, yokes, etc. Our skirt will have elastic, which will make you feel comfortable, especially after a delicious dinner.

What do we need

3. Elastic band.

4. Scissors.

5. Chalk or a piece of soap.

6. Threads and needles.

7. Sewing machine.

Before you go to the store to buy fabric, you need to take measurements to determine the quantity the required material. Take an elastic meter and take three measurements:

Your waist circumference;

Hip circumference at the most protruding points of the buttocks;

Length of the product.

Responsible moment!

Most often, the fabric has a width of 150 cm, but sometimes it is 140 and even 120 cm. Pay attention to this.

1. If your hips have a girth of up to 100 cm, the fabric will need: one length plus allowances for the waistband (more on that later) and for the hem (4 cm).

2. How to sew a long floor-length skirt if you are 110 cm? In this case, you need to take two lengths plus allowances.

As for the elastic band, you can take a wide one or even a very wide one - such elastic bands will fit your waist more tightly. Or you can use an ordinary thin one - everything will depend on the “heaviness” of the fabric. The allowance for the waistband, which we talked about above, will be equal to the width of the elastic band plus 1.5-2 cm for the hem. Everything has been purchased, now the question arises: “How to sew Do not confuse the width of the skirt with its length, pay attention to the edge that runs along the length of the fabric.

1. First sew the fabric along the length of the side seam. Using an iron, gently press the seam.

2. Now move on to the elastic band. Fold the top edge of the skirt inward by the width of the elastic (plus the hem) and baste. Take the elastic and make sure it fits freely into the waistband. Sew around the waistband, but leave a small hole to allow the elastic to be pulled through.

3. Pull the elastic in with a pin. It should fit snugly and not dangle around your waist; secure it. Just don’t tie it, but place the ends one on top of the other and stitch or stitch by hand.

3. Try on a skirt. Look at its length, if everything suits you, bend it and stitch it. Do not use a lot of fabric for the hem of the bottom, especially for light and flowing materials.

That's all!

Now a few words about chiffon. The principle is the same, but there is one nuance: chiffon is very thin and translucent. In order for you to feel comfortable in such a skirt, you need to make a petticoat. To do this, you need to match the chiffon tone.

What will be the length petticoat, you decide. The width of such a skirt should be equal to the volume of your hips plus 10 cm. And if it is long, do not forget to make a slit for comfortable walking.

Now you know how to sew a long floor-length skirt. Agree, this is absolutely But how wonderful a floor-length skirt looks, which can be sewn in just a few hours. Use accessories. Don't be afraid, you can handle this task!

Once upon a time, such skirts were already in fashion; they were called “Tatyanka”. But, as you know, fashion comes back, so a skirt of this cut will still be relevant now.

If your hips have a volume of up to 100 cm, we will need a piece of material 150 cm wide, and the length can be calculated as follows: measure the length you would like to obtain and add another 15 cm to this value. These 15 cm will be needed to process the lower and upper seams. If you want to sew the top gather or belt to the skirt separately, we also cut off a separate strip of the required size. When cutting out parts, do not forget to add a few cm to the seams. In this case, you should add 5 cm to the waist size.

We twist the resulting strip into a ring, stitch it along the length, leaving the sides unsewn, insert an elastic band that was previously measured at the waist.

The next step is to take a piece of material that was prepared for the skirt.

If you took one length, then fold the fabric in half and grind the two edges so that it looks like a tube of fabric.

If you are sewing a floor-length skirt in two parts, sew both parts along the edges.

Next, we begin to assemble the upper part of the skirt. To do this, gather the top with a thread to a volume equal to the volume of your waist plus 5 cm. If you want the skirt to fall more gently over the hips, you can not gather it, but gather it in folds.
Gently stretching the upper part, we sew on the waistband with elastic, which we made first.

The final stage is hemming the bottom of the skirt. The best way to do this is with a folded seam. If your fabric allows it, you don’t have to process the bottom.

Ideas, patterns

I bought one and fell in love. I think forever. They keep you cool on a hot day outside, which is surprising. They are slimming, which is not even discussed. And they are beautiful, look for yourself

Made from cotton

And again from silk, so that they flow and fall

Both skirt and dress without top

Still, a skirt with pleats - a good thing

From straight to extended, I never thought it would be so easy to model

And the skirt belt is large:

Cool knitted thing

And here's another design. With pockets and elasticated hem on the sides, look carefully

And here the waist and hip lines are perfectly visible to repeat. It fits very well

Sometimes on a skirt you want a wide belt and one made of elastic bands. This yoke belt holds well, doesn’t put pressure, and... and in general, is comfortable. If something happens, you can tie a strict belt on top of it.

How to make a yoke belt

We wind the rubber thread onto the bobbin. Surprisingly - manually

And then, the main thing is to sew even seams. Experts recommend sewing as slowly as possible to begin with.

And best of all, through paper, with lines drawn

Floor-length skirt pattern: sew 5 skirts according to our patterns

This summer season, maxi length is coming back into fashion - skirts will be floor-length. This is good news, because in a long skirt you feel cooler in the summer, especially if it is calico or cambric, and secondly, such a floor-length skirt allows you to visually elongate the lower part of the figure, making your legs endless!

Another argument in favor of a floor-length skirt is that you can sew it without a pattern, literally in an hour. So, time has come!

Maxi skirts can look completely different. We suggest you sew a skirt consisting of three frills of the same width. The length of such a skirt depends on the width of the frills, which are determined by the formula: Divide the length from the waist to the floor according to the measurement by 3.

For example, the length from the waist to the floor according to the measurement is 105 cm, the width of each frill will be equal to - 105: 3 = 35 cm.

Constructing a pattern

Pattern modeling

Skirt belt pattern.

Measure your waist circumference. Draw a rectangle equal to the length of the waist circumference according to the measurement plus a 3 cm increase for the fastener. The width of the rectangle is 8 cm. The increase in seams is 1 cm on all sides.

Pattern of the first frill of a floor-length skirt.

Calculate the width of the frills using the formula - the length from the waist to the floor according to the measurement divided by 3. Draw a rectangle with a length equal to the waist circumference multiplied by 1.4-1.7 (the larger the number, the more magnificent the ruffle) and the width obtained from the formula - in our case - 35 cm.

Pattern of the second frill.

Draw a second frill of the same width and length equal to the length of the first frill multiplied by 1.6-1.7.

Pattern of the third frill.

Draw a third frill with a length equal to the length of the second frill, multiplied by 1.6-1.7. Pay attention to the allowances on all sides - 1 cm.

Floor-length skirt pattern: cutting

We told you in detail how to calculate fabric for a full-length skirt and other clothes. See: Fabric calculation

Lay out all the details of the skirt along the grain, allow seam allowances of 1.5 cm, and 3 cm for the bottom frill.

How to sew a skirt

Sew the upper sides of each frill with a wide stitch (4 mm) and pull together.

The length of the top frill should be equal to the waist circumference as measured, the length of the second frill should be equal to the lower edge of the first, the length of the third frill should be equal to the lower edge of the second frill.

Baste and stitch the frills together. Process allowances. By back seam Sew a hidden zipper into the floor-length skirts.

See: How to sew a hidden zipper

Reinforce the outer side of the stitched waistband with thermal fabric.

Sew a belt to the skirt.

Fold the bottom of the skirt to the floor by 1 cm and stitch.

You can also stitch each frill along the top to the edge and two lines below (at a distance of 0.5 cm from each other - see photo above), carefully straightening the folds.

A skirt is a must-have item of clothing in every woman's wardrobe. Short and playful, long, strict, pleated, flared and tapered at the bottom - they can be completely different, but all as one emphasize femininity and make the image unique. The fact that fashion does not change at all, but only repeats itself, is a fact that has long been known to everyone, and today the full-length skirt, the pattern of which will be given in this article, is again at the peak of popularity.

Where to start making a pattern

The template for cutting this item of clothing is very easy to construct. To work, you will need thick construction film (newspaper, a roll of wallpaper or glued sheets), a pen, a ruler, a measuring tape and scissors. Each panel is built separately. So, where to start to get a perfectly fitting floor-length skirt? The pattern is based on taken measurements: waist, hips and length of the product from the waist to the bottom of the hem.

Straight Skirt Front Panel Template

After the measurements, you can begin working directly with the drawing. To do this, draw a vertical line on the base for the workpiece, equal to the length of the product from the waist to the bottom. Then you should mark the lines of the hips and waist. The distance between them is usually 15-20 cm. Next, the so-called horizontal measurements should be divided in half and the resulting values should be plotted at perpendiculars to the vertical line of the drawing. Usually, darts are not made on the front panel, especially if the stomach has a convex shape.

In this case, only the curve of the back is highlighted. This means that in order to finish working with the front panel, you should draw a line along the waist line from the side seam to the middle, cutting off the top of the product by 1.5 cm. Afterwards, a smooth line is drawn along the side cut, connecting the line of the waist and hips and going straight down. Both winter and summer floor-length skirts are constructed using this principle. The length of the hem can also be adjusted.

Straight skirt back panel template

It should be said that a straight floor-length skirt is the easiest to construct, and other styles are modeled based on its template. Creating a template for the back panel differs only in that 0.5-1.5 cm is added to half the measurements for a loose fit, depending on the density of the fabric and the design of the darts. It is these fabric tucks, evenly distributed along the waistline of the back panel, that allow you to adjust the fit of the product so that it follows all the curves of the figure. So, in order for the skirt to fit like a glove, putting aside half the waist circumference measurement along the upper perpendicular, you should add 3 cm. After this, they should be distributed into the darts between the middle and side seams.

Sewing a straight skirt

Making a floor-length skirt with your own hands is quite simple. After all the patterns are ready, they can be transferred to the fabric using soap or tailor's chalk. When cutting, allowances for processing seams should be taken into account. The assembly of all parts begins with processing the middle seam of the rear halves, where a zipper is sewn along the top, the seam is closed in the middle, and a cut is made at the bottom for free walking. Then close the darts and start sewing the side seams.

The final stage of processing is stitching the belt and processing the bottom of the hem.

Calculation of fabric for a circle skirt

The floor-length circle skirt has become quite popular today. It is cut quite simply. The template consists of two semicircles of fabric. To make it work beautiful skirt in the floor, the pattern of which will be discussed below, you should correctly calculate the fabric, draw the contours and design the cutout for the waist.

To begin with, it should be said that the process of constructing a blank is best done directly on fabric, the width of which should be at least 1.5 meters. All main construction will be done on one of the edges; side cuts will also be made on the tight edge. If it is a thin fabric, then these sections may not be processed during the assembly process. If the edges tighten the fabric somewhat, they should be cut off and, when sewing, the cuts should be processed with an overlocker. By the way, a full-length circle skirt will look ideal made from soft flowing fabrics, but thick fabrics will not be suitable for such a model.

So, to calculate, you need to take into account the length of the product from the waist to the bottom + 5 cm for processing and + a quarter of the waist measurement. Thus, one product will require 4 lengths + half the waist circumference + 20 cm.

Constructing a pattern

As already mentioned, construction is carried out along the edge of the canvas. The length of the product + 5 cm is set aside from the edge, then ¼ of the waist measurement and again the length from the waist to the bottom. After the middle of the short segment, ¼ of the waist measurement is set aside perpendicular to the edge and the three marks are closed in a semicircle. Next, you need to draw a semicircular line along the bottom of the hem of the skirt. To do this, you will need a measuring tape, with which marks are made at a distance of every 20 cm (from the waist to the bottom according to the length of the product +5 cm). Afterwards, all marks also close in a semicircle. It is necessary to make an allowance for processing along the cutout of the waistline.

The full-length circle skirt is sewn from two absolutely identical parts. The waistband is a narrow strip of fabric, and the zipper is sewn into the left side seam.

Fashion is medicine for women

Every fashionista tries to follow latest trends, which are dictated by glossy magazines, and if you have even the slightest ability for needlework, then making such a thing as a floor-length skirt with your own hands will not be difficult and will not entail large expenses. A little diligence, patience, imagination - and a unique product will become your favorite item of clothing. The floor-length skirt, the pattern of which is presented in this article, will become an indispensable outfit for a summer walk or evening out into the world The main thing is to choose the right fabric and “work a little magic” with the sewing machine. The result will exceed all expectations, and admiring glances will give you self-confidence and the desire to continue creating unique masterpieces.

To sew a skirt you will need:

  • fabric (in this case corrugated chiffon) 150.0 cm.
  • threads 3 pcs.
  • wide decorative elastic band length 70.0 cm.
  • tailor's scissors
  • tape measure
  • long ruler
  • safety pins
  • needle for handmade
  • basting threads

Calculations for constructing a skirt

  • St (half waist circumference) = 67.0 cm. (waist circumference)/2 = 33.5 cm.
  • Sb (half hip circumference) = 92.0 cm. (hip circumference)/2 = 46.0 cm.
  • Di (product length) = 100.0 cm.
  • PB (hip gain) = 1.0 cm.

Measurements are taken for each individual

Seam allowances

  • Along the upper cut - 1.0 cm.
  • Along the side seams - 1.5 cm.

Calculations for construction

  • Rear half width: (Sb+Pb)/2-1.0 = (46.0+1.0)/2-1.0 = 22.5
  • Front half width: (Sb+Pb)-22.5 = (46.0+1.0)-22.5 = 24.5

Cut out your skirts

Cutting diagram:

Preparing fabric for cutting

We check the fabric from the front and back sides for defects.

If there is a defect, then you need to mark it with chalk lines. Decate the fabric with the addition of steam; in our case, it is corrugated fabric, so you need to decate it so that the sole of the iron does not touch the fabric.

Constructing a skirt on fabric

Lay the fabric out on a flat surface with the right sides facing inward so that the edges of the fabric meet each other. In this case, the edges of this fabric are located at the bottom and top of the fabric (due to the corrugation pattern), so we join the sections.

From the bottom, measure the length of the product 100.0 cm and draw a horizontal line. In this case, there is no allowance at the bottom of the skirt, since the edge is not cut off and does not require processing.

Since the skirt is designed with a wide elastic band, from the drawn horizontal line we put down the value 6.0 cm = (7.0 cm, elastic width - 1.0 cm, allowance along the upper cut) and draw a second horizontal line.

Applying calculated data to the fabric of the front and back of the skirt

To construct the skirt, you need to add a 4.0 cm increase to the front and back of the skirt, for a loose fit, so that the skirt passes freely through the hips.

From the fold of the fabric on one side along the upper horizontal line, apply the width of the front half taking into account the increase: 24.5+4.0 = 28.5 cm. Then from the fold on the other side we apply the width of the back half taking into account the increase: 22.5+ 4.0 = 26.5 cm.

Next, from these points we draw lines to the bottom, parallel to the folds of the fabric. Along the bottom of the drawn lines we add an extension of the skirt along the bottom of 8.5 cm, on the front and back parts of the skirt. Then we connect the resulting points with straight lines to the points along the upper section of the skirt. These will be the side seams of the skirt.

Along the lines of the side seams we outline the width of the allowances of 1.5 cm. We check all the drawn lines in accordance with the calculated data, then cut out the front and rear halves skirts taking into account allowances, starting from the top of the skirt.

For ease of cutting, the fabric can be pinned safety pins.

Sewing a skirt

We select threads according to the color of the fabric

Fold the front and back parts of the skirt with the right sides inward, matching the top and bottom sections. We use safety pins to pin along the side seams, aligning the cuts.

Place running stitches along the side seams, removing the pins

We sew the side seams on a sewing machine using a sewing machine needle for this fabric No. 70-75.

Removing the basting threads

We overlock the cuts on the overlock side from the front half.

Since the bottom of the skirt is not processed, when machine work is performed, the side seams at the bottom are pulled out, so the corners at the bottom of the seams are folded and secured with machine stitching.

Iron the seams from the wrong side, to the back of the skirt, lightly touching the fabric with the iron, adding steam so that the corrugated folds do not iron out.

Processing the skirt lining

Pin the side seams of the lining

Baste with hand stitches

Iron seams to the back

We sew the bottom of the lining on the overlock from the front side

Connection of skirt with lining

To do this, we put the lining into the skirt, with the wrong sides facing each other, matching the side seams, the top cuts and pinning.

Hand stitch along the top edge

Overlocking the edges with an overlocker

Removing running stitches

We lay two parallel machine stitches, while slightly loosening the upper thread tension regulator in order to assemble the assembly without difficulty.

To gather an even stitch, you need to pull two threads of the stitch and gather the gather to the desired size, while distributing it evenly

Tie the threads into a knot so that the assembly does not fall apart

This is what the finished assembly looks like

Processing the elastic belt

Wrap the elastic band around your waist and measure as much as you need according to your figure. Trim off excess leaving seam allowance. Stitch the seam from the wrong side of the elastic, so that one allowance is shorter and the other longer. Then use a long allowance to go around the short allowance and stitch again.

Connecting an elastic belt with a skirt

We connect the elastic belt with the upper section of the skirt, adjusting the gathering to the size of the elastic. We pin along the entire circumference

We attach the elastic waistband to the skirt using hand stitches

Remove the pins and sew with a zigzag stitch on a sewing machine, stretching the elastic a little

I tried stitching with a regular stitch, but it didn't work. When trying on a skirt, the stitching broke in several places when stretched. Of course, you can sew with a regular stitch, but you need to stretch the elastic a lot.

Last few years summer skirts on the floor do not go out of fashion, and this is easily explained. A long skirt looks very romantic and suits ladies of almost any age. A full-length skirt allows your legs to “breathe” and won’t get too hot. In addition, due to its length, it seems to elongate the figure, making the legs endless!

How to sew a floor-length skirt with a gather at the waist?

Once upon a time, such skirts were already in fashion; they were called “Tatyanka”. But, as you know, fashion comes back, so a skirt of this cut will still be relevant now.

  • If your hips have a volume of up to 100 cm, we will need a piece of material 150 cm wide, and the length can be calculated as follows: measure the length you would like to obtain and add another 15 cm to this value. These 15 cm will be needed to process the lower and upper seams.

  • If you want to sew the top gather or belt to the skirt separately, we also cut off a separate strip of the required size. When cutting out parts, do not forget to add a few cm to the seams. In this case, you should add 5 cm to the waist size.
  • We twist the resulting strip into a ring, stitch it along the length, leaving the sides unsewn, insert an elastic band that was previously measured at the waist.
  • The next step is to take a piece of material that was prepared for the skirt. If you took one length, fold the fabric in half and grind the two edges to make it look like a tube of fabric. If you are sewing a floor-length skirt in two parts, sew both parts along the edges.
  • Next, we begin to assemble the upper part of the skirt. To do this, gather the top with a thread to a volume equal to the volume of your waist plus 5 cm. If you want the skirt to fall more gently over the hips, you can not gather it, but gather it in folds.
  • Gently stretching the upper part, we sew on the waistband with elastic, which we made first.
  • The final stage is hemming the bottom of the skirt. The best way to do this is with a folded seam. If your fabric allows it, you don’t have to process the bottom.

Now your DIY floor-length skirt is ready!

How to sew a floor-length six-piece skirt with your own hands?

  1. First of all, take a measuring tape and remove necessary measures– waist size, hip size and desired length.
  2. Then add 2 cm to the resulting waist volume for a loose fit and divide the figure by 6. You have received a number that means the width of the wedge of your future skirt at the waist.
  3. Next, add 4 cm to the hip volume for a loose fit and divide the resulting amount by 6. Now we have the width of one skirt wedge across the hips.
  4. When all the measurements are ready, we begin creating the pattern. To do this, draw a rectangle ABCD on a large sheet of paper. AB is the width, it will be equal to the width of the skirt wedge at the hips. AD is the length of your skirt. After this, draw a line down exactly in the middle of the rectangle.
  5. The next stage is to mark the middle on side AB, retreat 16-20 cm down from it. The exact length depends on what kind of floor-length skirt you want - full at the hips or free-falling. If it’s curvy, step back 16-18 cm, and if it’s free-flowing, 20 cm. After you’ve stepped back the required length, draw a horizontal line from one side to the other – this will be the hip line. On the upper side of the rectangle, stepping back along the edges, mark the waist line, using for this purpose the indicator indicating the width of the skirt wedge at the waist.
  6. Next, connect the straight lines of the waist and hips. Then continue these lines down to the bottom border of the rectangle. And finally, step back from the angle D0.5-1 cm upward and connect this point with the middle of the wedge with a smooth line. Do the same with corner C.
  7. The final stage remains. We lay out the resulting pattern on the fabric (the method of laying out depends on the color and texture of the fabric), not forgetting to leave fabric for each seam. It will be enough to leave 1-1.5 cm at the top. On the sides of the wedge - 1.5-2 cm, at the bottom - 2.5-3 cm. After all the parts are ready, we sew them together, fold the fabric from the bottom and top, we process it.

Your floor-length six-piece skirt is ready!

DIY floor-length skirt pattern

Some craftswomen understand more clearly the description of the process of sewing a full-length skirt. And some people can’t imagine how they can sew something without having a specific pattern in front of them. If it is more convenient for you to sew a skirt with a pattern, here it is:

How to sew a floor-length chiffon skirt with your own hands?

Chiffon skirts are incredibly light, delicate, luminous, which is especially important in the hot summer.

To sew a full-length chiffon skirt, you will need a piece of material measuring 2m×1.5m, threads in the color of the material and wide elastic band. Keep in mind that chiffon is a transparent material. And if you do not want your underwear to be see-through, you will need to sew a chiffon skirt with a petticoat. There is no need to make it the same length as the skirt itself. 30 cm will be enough.

So, take the material from which you will sew the skirt and fold it in half. Sew the edges together, finish the seams, as well as the bottom and top. Then cut the elastic to the required size, sew it into a circle and stitch it to the base of the skirt. It is best to attach the elastic with two zigzag seams.
