Below is a description of sewing an elegant dress for christening from one of our readers.

Initially, I planned to sew a beautiful dress for my niece, which she could wear for baptism and a couple of holidays. This model was liked for its simplicity and the ability to choose a pattern for the desired size. My niece has already outgrown a little 92, but does not reach 98cm (the girl is 2.5 years old). I decided to sew a little outgrowth and chose a 98 cm pattern. As it turned out later, I did the right thing, because she got into it with difficulty. I printed and cut out the patterns, for sewing as the main fabric I chose white chintz and as an additional upper tier of the skirt - lace. I bought 2.5 meters of lace braid, three flower bows and thin braid with rhinestones-2 meters. Although the pattern came with sleeves and I even cut them out, I didn’t sew in. I decided that without them this dress would look nicer. I made double patterns for the body to the waist - so that the chintz would not shine through and so that it looked neater. Then I sewed all the details in them, I got patterns to the waist in duplicate. I grinded the necks, cuts for the head and turned the product upside down. After that, I sewed on the front side of the armhole, pre-bending the ends and letting thin lace at the seams so that they were not noticeable. The top of the product was almost ready. I want to note that I tailored exactly 98 cm in patterns; I did not make additional allowances for seams. And then, when the dress was already ready, it sat back to back. Therefore, if you sew exactly to your size, then additionally add more to the allowances so that the girl fits well. You can also slightly increase the neckline, sew in a zipper at the back, or plant small buttons. In order for the child’s head to pass without problems, it is necessary that the two halves of the backrest are sewn together only at the very bottom and leave a deep cut. On this I was a little stalled and I had to embroider it twice, doing more.
After that, I started to pattern the bottom, only I decided to make the upper lace layer of the skirt more magnificent and therefore cut it not like the bottom - with the sun, but simply assembled it and sewed it. I cut the bottom layer exactly according to the finished pattern. It turned out very elegant and in length - just right. I trimmed the bottom of the upper lace layer with rhinestones. So that the threads would not catch my eye, I sewed with a very thin fishing line. She was transparent and barely noticeable. I hemmed the bottom layer of the dress with lace. After I connected the top and bottom of the dress from the inside and processed all the edges on a typewriter. I wanted the bottom of the dress to somehow play - for this, I slightly grabbed the accordion and lifted the ends of the skirt in front from two sides. In the places of capture, I sewed on a white flower and another on the left side of the chest. To make the dress look even more elegant, I bought a very wide transparent ribbon-mesh with large flowers embroidered with white braid. I sewed it at the waist to the outside of the dress with hand stitches in a transparent thin line. Because of its large size, it turned out that the top of the braid was under the chest, and the bottom went on a lace skirt. But it looked good. On the back of the cross-section, I sewed a small button and made an air loop of white thread. But since, as I already wrote, the cut had to be extended, the button there needed at least three. I then finished them. On this my work with the dress ended - it turned out to be very airy and beautiful.

A full-size school sundress pattern for girls with a height of 128-134-140 cm.

The pattern is printed on a conventional printer.

You get right away three sizes of patterns.

Cut-off sundress at the waistline, the skirt is folded. Zipper in the middle seam of the back. According to this pattern, you can sew not only a strict school sundress, but also a summer dress for relaxation, picking up bright fabrics.

The pattern is sent instantly to e-mail (to your e-mail address). The file with the pattern is located in the attachment   letters. Open, print, glue the sheets, cut out the size you need and you can start cutting.

To be able to print the pattern several times, save the file to your computer.

Sewing a school sundress will require 0.9 - 1 m of fabric (depending on size) with a width of 1.50 m. Select fabrics depending on the purpose of the sundress, preferably natural. It can be plain fabrics, in color, corresponding to the dress code of your school. For other cases, fabrics in a cage, striped, etc. are suitable. For the summer version, you can use light fabrics of a wide variety of colors and shades.

School sundress pattern is given in three sizes in full size without allowances for seams.

Size tables for children's clothing, as well as the ratio of age, height, chest circumference and baby weight, are possible.

Note: before printing all sheets, print one sheet with a control square of 10x10 cm. Check that its sides correspond exactly to 10 cm. Do this with the help of your printer settings. Now you can print all the sheets of the pattern and assemble it in one puzzle, according to the scheme, using a narrow tape or an adhesive pencil.

The pattern is designed for an age of about 7-10 years. Age guidelines are not very reliable, since children at this age are of different heights and different fatnesses. Therefore, before cutting out the details of the pattern, take the main measurements from your child: chest and waist, length to the waist and the entire product, compare with the pattern parameters and determine the appropriate size.

Cutting school sundress

The patterns are given without allowances for seams, therefore, when cutting, do not forget about this and add 1-1.5 cm for grouting seams, 0.7-0.8 cm is enough for welded seams, 2-4 cm for bending the bottom of the product, depending on the processing method.

When cutting, give additional allowances in those places where refinement after fitting is possible.

Details of the school sundress cut

The bodice of the school sundress for the cool time of the year is recommended to be lined (lays on the main details).

  • Before 1 part with a fold
  • Back 2 details
  • Skirt front panel 1 piece with fold
  • Skirt back panel 2 parts
  • Neckline and armhole in front 1 part (retake from the main piece)
  • Turning the neckline and armhole of the back 2 parts (retake from the main piece)

Note:   Details of the front and back panels of the skirt are cut in one piece.

Sewing a school sundress

Neaten all open sections after grinding.

Even a novice dressmaker can easily cope with sewing such a sarafan.

Sewing a sarafan can be simplified by applying a knit inlay for processing the neck.

When sewing a sarafan using wrappers (as provided for in this model), I would suggest the following processing sequence:

  • Sew shoulder sections.
  • Strengthen the linings with adhesive pad, grind off the shoulder sections of the linings.
  • Grind the neck and armholes.
  • Stitch the side slices of the bodice.
  • Start side cuts of the front and rear skirts.
  • On the skirt, lay the folds on the control marks, secure with pins.
  • Connect the bodice with the skirt along the waistline.
  • Start the middle section of the back of the skirt to the control mark, leaving a section for the zipper.
  • Stitch in the zipper.
  • To process a bottom of a product.
