Sand for strengthening nails. "Velvet season" all year round! Velvet Sand Nail Art Workshops and Trending Design Examples

Nails are the same pride for a girl as her hair. I want them to be long, well-groomed and beautiful. And for this you need to learn how to do a neat and, of course, original manicure, that is, to master the design of nails. Velvet sand on nails is a fairly new trend, but it is rapidly gaining popularity. There are a great many options: for short marigolds, long, medium, round, square and much, much more. One of the most unusual varieties of modern manicure is velvet sand. Design and manicure with velvet sand is not difficult, you can master the technique of working with it yourself, or you can trust the master and add a gel polish coating with sand. Alas, not every young lady can afford such a pleasure, so it is worth learning how to do a velvet sand manicure yourself. Look at the photo examples of nail design with velvet sand:

Sand (flock) itself is a powdery agent that can be crushed to varying degrees: from small grains to particles that look more like dust. In addition, it can be matte and satin, as a result of which it looks different on the nails: soft suede or sugar, more prominent. A jar of this powder is inexpensive, it is not consumed very quickly during the manicure process. Nevertheless, masters of the nail service ask for a separate price for the sand coating.

Nail design with gel polish and velvet sand

Perhaps this option looks the most elegant and effective, since the master in the salon will be able to recreate a whole masterpiece of fine art on the nails using bulk material. In order to make a nail design with velvet sand, the nail plates are covered with gel varnish (you first need to pick up varnish and sand so that they look good among themselves), and sprinkle on top. Next, a spatula is taken, with which the pattern is drawn. The remains of the sand coating after drying in an ultraviolet lamp are brushed off with a stiff brush. As a result, a drawing that has acquired volume and relief now flaunts on the nail.

This is the only layer of varnish, the velvet sand on top is not covered with a fixer or any other means. Until the correction itself, whenever it is done, the coating will not crumble, and the pattern will not deform.

How to make velvet sand on your nails with your own hands

Velvet sand on your nails can be applied at home. How to do such a manicure - we will consider further. In order to make such a design with your own hands, you need to acquire a special set, which includes the following:

Now, in fact, the process itself:

  1. Initially, you need to do all the steps necessary to prepare the nails: remove the cuticle, give the nails the required length and shape, and then thoroughly degrease the nail plate using a tampon soaked in acetone.
  2. The next step is to prepare the material itself. The required amount should be poured onto a sheet of paper and thinned out with an orange stick or a manicure plate. Then carefully inspect it so that there are no pieces, since then the coating will lie unevenly and the nail design will be damaged.
  3. Apply the first coat of varnish and dry completely. Flock is poured over the second, not dried, layer. You can grab it with your finger and, as if slapping, spread it over the nail, or you can do it with a brush. It is necessary to do such actions as carefully as possible so that the flock covers the entire surface of the nail plate evenly.
  4. Then there are three options for the development of events: leave everything to dry; make a pattern with a spatula; paint over a drawing with varnish or acrylic, and then cover it again with velvet sand.
  5. From above it does not need to be fixed with anything, otherwise the manicure will lose its originality and uniqueness of execution.

In order to decide, you can first see how velvet sand looks on nails in a photo on the Internet or in numerous catalogs that are usually offered when buying a flock.

Velvet sand with acrylic powder

Sand can be replaced with acrylic powder. It has a very fine texture, therefore it allows you to draw and sprinkle even very small patterns without damaging the pattern. Velvet sand is usually replaced with acrylic powder in salons when the appropriate nail extension technique is used, but such a replacement can be done at home.

In terms of strength, the powder is no different from flock, and the application process is identical, so the choice between these two original varieties is only for the girl herself. And regardless of whether the powder is chosen or velvet sand on the nails, the application technology can be viewed on the video on the Internet, which describes in detail each stage of nail preparation and even drawing a pattern.

Velvet varnish

In addition to sand, there is also a varnish, which will also look quite unusual on the nails. It is applied in the same way as an ordinary varnish, it is covered with a fixative on top and, unlike sand, does not lose its properties. Such a varnish has a rich, but soft color, if you want brightness, a challenge, you should try to apply a pattern with velvet varnish over a contrasting base.

Flock advantages and disadvantages

The advantages and disadvantages of flock are widely known and their knowledge will help to make the right choice. First of all, a velvet covering should be chosen for the following reasons:

  • Uniqueness - so far there is nothing similar, and indeed, you rarely meet a girl with a similar nail design;
  • Durability - if you do not dig the ground with your nails, then the flock will last more than two weeks without tinting and other manipulations;
  • Ease of application.

But we should not forget about some unpleasant moments. First of all, this is its fragility (paradoxical, but true), since a manicure made at home may well peel off in a day or two, and the cost of this service in the salon.

If you want to experiment, and there is an opportunity to do them at a professional level, then you should definitely decide on a manicure with flock.

Look at the video of velvet sand on the nails - the manicure process is shown with the corresponding design:

A current and extremely popular type of nail art is a rough "sand" finish of nails.

This coating is achieved by using a special powder called velvet sand or acrylic powder of varying degrees of grinding. Instead, they sometimes use powder for handicraft art - scrapbooking.

When a powder or powder comes into contact with a liquid, it does not soften, but retains its density and texture. Jars with velvet sand are sold in cosmetic stores and cost about 100 rubles.

To complete the velvet sand nail design you will need:

  • Flock, it is also velvet sand - the material that the manicurist applies to the client's nail. The flock looks like a lot of small particles of cotton, acrylic, viscose, cashmere, etc., velvet is not included in the material.
  • Long-haired brush.
  • Varnish or gel polish of any color, matte is better, the powder adheres to it more tightly, but glossy is also possible.
  • Flockyder - an apparatus with which a velvet coating is formed. It creates an electric field that affects the lint particles. So they acquire the desired polarity and fit snugly to the nail.

Advantages of velvet sand nail design:

Disadvantages:

  • Instability. If you do a velvet manicure yourself, be prepared for the fact that after a couple of days the coating will begin to lose its appearance, this is due to the lack of a topcoat.
  • Another disadvantage of velvet sand nail design is high price... In a nail salon, you will have to pay a thousand rubles or more for this type of manicure.

To professionally perform velvet sand nail design with acrylic powder, the following technology must be observed:

Step 1
Coarse acrylic powder is poured into a special container of the flockaider.

Step 2
A varnish or shellac is applied to a previously prepared nail.

Step 3
The finger to be processed is placed under a metal support, the flockider is placed over the nail and turned on.

Step 4
Then the nail is dried under a UV lamp for 2-4 minutes. Do not use a top coat for velvet sand.

Step 5
Hands after a manicure should not be washed for several hours. So the coating will last longer - up to 2-3 weeks.

Technology for performing nail design "velvet sand" on acrylic or gel extended nails:

Step 1
First, the master applies a pattern (for example, a rose) to the nail with EMI gel paint with a sticky layer.

Step 2
Then sprinkles the selected color on the client's nail. At the same time, you need to hold your finger over the box of sand so as not to waste the material.

Step 3
The nail is dried in a UV lamp for 2 minutes.

Step 4
With a stiff brush, brush off excess material from the nail. It should remain in the drawing.

For greater beauty, you can combine nail designs "velvet sand" and "liquid stone". As a result of this combination, nails look simply luxurious, like sparkling gems on velvet.

Velvet nail design: a variety of styles and their implementation

A simple and at the same time elegant version of velvet nail design is a French manicure with white "sand", with which silver rhinestones will look very stylish and festive.

A very strict and elegant version of a velvet French manicure would be a combination of matte black varnish, which covers the nail plate, except for the tip of the nail and white "sand" that covers only the tip of the nail.

A very simple and quick way to make a velvet nail design is to buy a special velvet varnish (eg Dance Legend "Velvet Effect"). It contains in its composition the smallest abrasive particles, which, once on the nail, give the effect of sand, but such a varnish does not last as long as usual.

Gel polish - a great option for velvet nail designs made in a beauty salon. With the help of gel polish and velvet powder, the master can make a complex and beautiful pattern on extended and natural nails and fix it with an ultraviolet lamp.

Step 6
Use a manicure brush to brush off any remaining powder from the sides of your nails.

Step 7
Repeat with the rest of your nails.

Be prepared that this manicure won't last long. A day or two, and you have to do it all over again.

If you have a pet, do not iron them after a manicure for at least a few hours. Otherwise, instead of velvet nails, you will have hairy ones.

Also, if you spill anything on your nail, especially liquids (coffee or tea), it will be very difficult to remove those stains.

You will need two types of varnish: base coat and base coat. Two main coatings will be used as an example: OPI Get Your Number (Liquid Sand) and OPI Liquid Sand in Can't Let Go. There is no need to buy a topcoat.

  • Degrease the nail plate
  • Apply a base coat and let it dry completely.
  • Apply two thin strips of masking tape to each nail to form a V. Press the strips to adhere to the nail.
  • Above the ribbon line, apply two coats of OPI Get Your Number (Liquid Sand) in bright blue.
  • Under the tape, apply two coats of OPI Liquid Sand in Can't Let Go, a shiny purple texture.
  • Carefully remove the tape when the varnish is completely dry.
  • So you have made velvet nails with the simplest pattern.

In order to make manicure fashionable and unusual, many additional materials have been invented, including sand for manicure. Velvet sand is easy to use, affordable, looks beautiful and rich on nails. How to use sand, what is the technique for applying it and general advice from nail masters can be read in this material.

The history of the creation of nail sand

Our compatriot, Ekaterina Miroshnichenko, is an innovator in the field of manicure. It occurred to her that acrylic can be crushed to the size of nanoparticles, which can then be poured onto gel polish.

Nowadays, several types of velvet sand are distinguished: very fine (the so-called flock, it is applied with a special device - a flockader, which distributes sand in an even layer), medium (most often used by manicure masters) and large in the form of large multifaceted particles or balls (this type is used in special occasions for decorating multiple nails).

Initially, in order to apply sand to nails, it was necessary to use a special gel paint, which has a rather thick texture, but over time, application to ordinary undried gel polish became more widespread.

How to get a manicure using nail sand

Sand has acquired a special love from lovers of volumetric drawings, because it is thanks to the sand that the necessary shape and layering are created, plus everything, they can significantly diversify even a classic jacket.

In order to make such a manicure, you do not need special tools, especially if you are applying a gel coating yourself, but if this is all new to you, that is, a standard set: UV lamp, base varnish and top coat (for the first main adhesion layer and the fixing layer with a matte or glossy shine), a special buff file (for nail preparation), the gel varnishes themselves and velvet sand of the desired colors (at first you can take 2-3 colors), it is also better to have dots for applying the pattern or a special brush, since a regular brush will not be able to draw thin curls.

You can see examples of interesting color combinations in various photos and videos on specialized sites for nail care and manicure. But, in general, nail masters recommend using contrasting shades so that the pattern clearly stands out on the main coating. However, there are patterns that can be made in the same color, and the pattern will highlight texture and volume (the main gel polish should be glossy).

In order to make a manicure with sand for nails, you first need to create the correct shape of the nail, process the cuticle, remove the upper lipid layer of the nail plate with a buff, clean and degrease the surface.

Depending on what intensity you want, 1-3 coats of the base color are applied. Each is dried for 3-6 minutes (until complete polymerization). After that, the top layer that forms after drying is removed.

To go directly to applying the sand pattern, it is best to take a small piece of paper and pour gel polish on it, quite a bit. After that, the required pattern is applied with a brush or dots: geometric patterns, flowers, shapes, animals, stars - in general, everything that is enough for your imagination.

Further, a layer of sand is poured on top of the entire nail, as experts advise, it is better not to regret it, since it is better that excess material remains, which you then calmly sweep away, than the area that is not filled with sand appears, which will then be extremely difficult to correct.

In order for the sand to fix well, it is better to wait 1-2 minutes for it to be absorbed into the varnish, after which you can safely place the decorated nails in a UV lamp, you need to dry it for 3-4 minutes. The last step is to remove excess sand with a thick nap brush.

Sand patterns can also be done on ordinary varnishes, but the durability of such a decoration will be short-lived.

Any homework with sand manicure is best done with gloves.

To secure the pattern and protect it from dirt, professionals recommend covering the sand with a regular base varnish for simple varnishes. It will penetrate between the grains, additionally fix them, and on top there will be an invisible film, which will preserve the structure, and at the same time prevent dirt from sticking.

Magic sand

The first method is grains of a spherical firm, which are called velvet sand. A wide range of colors of unusual sand is presented on the nail art market. In such a coating, the glitter should be large, because small ones are easily sunk in gel polish.

Technique for applying a velvet design.

star dust

Velvet sand can be made with acrylic powder, which is used for nail extension. It is slightly finer in structure than sand, and forms a slightly different rough surface on the nails. With it, the effect is more velvety. It sticks to even the finest lines and strokes.

To achieve a sparkling effect, it is recommended to mix the powder with any fine glitter of different density. With colored dust, the design may get a little dirty, but with transparent dust, not.

When using translucent gels, it is necessary to apply gel polish as a substrate to match the sparkles, or light. If the design contains dark shades, then the base color can be any.

The application technique is exactly the same:

  • Apply base and 2 colored layers of gel polish to the nail.
  • Apply acrylic powder generously and evenly on a wet, undried nail so that it gets on all parts of the nail. It is better to do this over the jar in order to immediately crush the excess into it.
  • Before sending the design to the lamp, shake off excess dust as much as possible. It is recommended to dry nails 2 times longer than usual.
  • After polymerization, remove the remaining powder.

Painting

Performing velvet manicure on gel polish, it can be decorated with unique patterns using gel paints. It can be a beautiful design in feminine shades with velvet roses and small rhinestones, like little dew drops in delicate flower buds. Or create a cozy and warm knit manicure by repeating the knitting of your favorite sweater.

Velvet sand on a matte surface holds better, in addition, it is easier to paint on it with a brush and paint well on it. Sand holds more reliably on gel paint than on varnish, because it has a tendency to spread.

For velvet sand you need clear and bold lines. Because it is larger, it needs more paint to grab and fix the grains.

What is it and how much does the service cost in the salon?

This dust is translucent and can change hue depending on which base color of the nail polish is chosen. Velvet sand can be of different degrees of grinding, as well as appearance (satin and matte). This will create a different effect - suede or sugar. A similar design can be done not only on artificial, but also on natural nails.

Professional set for velvet manicure

This set contains the following materials:
  • Flock or velvet sand is a material that is applied to the nail plate. It looks like a large number of fibers of different lengths (wool, silk, viscose, cotton, acrylic, polymyad, etc.). One set contains 7 different colors.
  • A brush that has a voluminous and long bristle, thanks to which it is much more convenient to work with flock. Also, this brush is used to clean the hopper or stand, as they can get very dirty during operation.
  • Metal stand. It is used for more convenient work when creating nail designs, thanks to which the manicure will turn out to be much more accurate.
  • Flockyder - the main tool for performing velvet manicure. Thanks to its use, a unique velvet coating of the nail plate will be created. This apparatus produces an electric field that affects the lint particles, which acquire the desired polarity. Thanks to this, the pile adheres more tightly to the nail. You need to use a flocker according to the instructions attached to it.

In beauty salons, experienced manicurists create such an unusual design using a flockader and the process goes as follows:
  • First, powder is poured into a special hopper of the device.
  • A varnish or gel is applied to the prepared nail plate (the cuticle is removed and the nails are given the desired shape). To make the manicure brighter, it is recommended to use colored varnishes.
  • A finger is placed under the metal support and the device itself is turned on, placing it directly above the surface of the nail, a key is constantly pressed. During this procedure, some particles of material will end up on the stand, but this is normal.
  • Now you need to dry the nail under a UV lamp, or just wait a few minutes until the coating is completely dry.
  • In order for a velvet manicure to last as long as possible, it is not recommended to wet your hands for several hours after visiting the salon.
  • To prevent dust from getting into your eyes and causing irritation, you should wear a special mask. This rule applies to the masters, the client can simply turn away.

You can easily make such an original and stylish manicure at home, you just need to purchase high-quality materials. The main thing is to strictly adhere to the following instructions:
  • First, a simple manicure is done - the cuticle is processed, the nails are trimmed and filed.
  • A clean swab is moistened in a small amount of acetone and each nail is processed - degreasing is carried out.
  • A flock is laid out on a sheet of paper and thinned slightly with an orange stick. During this procedure, you need to remove all the lumps, otherwise the design will be ugly.
  • A varnish of any shade is applied to the nail plate in one layer.
  • You need to wait a couple of minutes until the layer of varnish is completely dry.
  • Then varnish is applied again and, before it has time to dry, a layer of flock is applied. To do this, you need to soak your finger in the material and, with patting, light movements, the flock is evenly distributed over the entire nail plate.
  • The drawings on the nails look very interesting and unusual - they are applied with varnish or acrylic paint, after which only the drawing is covered with flock on top.
  • All excess villi are removed with a brush.

It must be remembered that velvet manicure does not need additional fixing with transparent varnish.

The benefits of velvet manicure

  • This is the perfect choice for girls who want to attract everyone's attention.
  • Particles of focus can be used both for full coverage of the nail plate and for creating various patterns.
  • This coating is completely unique and has no analogues today.
  • Salon velvet manicure retains its ideal appearance for 20 days, and sometimes more, depending on what the girl is doing.
  • The creation of such an original design does not take more than half an hour and does not require the acquisition of any special skills, so you can do it yourself at home.

Disadvantages of velvet manicure

  • Today, such a nail design is a novelty, so it will have a rather high cost in salons (approximately 800? 1000 rubles and more).
  • A self-made velvet manicure can only last a couple of days.

If it is not possible to visit beauty salons or use flock, then you can take a special varnish, after applying which the nail plate becomes like a soft velvet fabric. This type of varnish has an interesting texture and does not make the color of the nails too bright. Having stopped the choice even on a blue shade, the manicure will not look vulgar or tasteless.

It is very easy to use such a varnish, since it is practically no different from a simple one. Apply 2 layers of velvet varnish and fixer to the prepared nail plate. To make a brighter manicure, you can experiment a little - apply the drawing with velvet varnish of a different shade or sparkles.
