Nutrition 6 month old baby on artificial. Enter the first feeding, if the baby is on artificial feeding

Your baby is already 4 months old. He has grown significantly, has become more active, is interested in objects falling into his field of vision, carefully examines and reaches for them. The child’s emotional reactions have become much richer: he smiles joyfully at all people whom he often sees more and more, makes various sounds.

You are still breastfeeding your baby or you had to switch to mixed or artificial feeding. The child is actively growing, and only with breast milk or infant formula can he not always get all the necessary nutrients. And that means it's time to think about complementary foods.

The optimal time to start its administration is an interval of 4 to 6 months, regardless of whether the baby receives breast milk or a mixture. It was at this time that children reacted best to new products. Up to 4 months, the child is not yet ready to perceive and digest any other food. And with the late introduction of complementary foods - after 6 months, children already have significant deficiencies in certain food substances and, in the first place, micronutrients (minerals, vitamins, long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, etc.). In addition, babies at this age often refuse new products, they delay the development of chewing skills of thick foods and inadequate eating habits are formed. It is important to know that, as this does not seem strange at first glance, allergic reactions often occur with delayed use of complementary foods.

In what cases is it advisable to give complementary foods as early as 4 months, and when can you wait up to 5.5 or even 6 months? To resolve this issue, be sure to consult a pediatrician.

As a rule, at an earlier age (4 - 4.5 months), complementary foods are administered to children at risk for developing iron deficiency anemia, as well as children with insufficient weight gain and with functional digestive disorders.

The optimal time for starting the introduction of complementary foods to a healthy baby is the age of 5 - 5.5 months.

The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding infants from 6 months of age. From the point of view of domestic pediatricians, which is based on extensive practical experience and scientific research, this is only possible in cases where the baby was born on time, without hypotrophy (since in these cases the reserves of mineral substances are very small), he is healthy, grows well and developing. In addition, mother should also be healthy, fully eat and use either specialized enriched products for pregnant and lactating women, or courses of vitamin and mineral complexes. Such restrictions are associated with the depletion of iron reserves even in an absolutely healthy child by 5–5.5 months of age and a significant increase in the risk of anemia in the absence of complementary foods rich in or enriched in iron. Other deficient conditions arise.

Vegetable puree or porridge may be the first feeding product, it is better to give the fruit puree to the baby later - after tasty sweet fruits, children usually eat vegetable puree and cereals worse, often refuse them completely.

What is the best place to start? In cases where the child has a tendency to constipation or he is gaining weight too quickly, preference should be given to vegetables. With a high likelihood of developing anemia, unstable stools and small increases in weight - from baby cereals enriched with micronutrients. And if you started the introduction of complementary foods with cereals, then the second product will be vegetables and vice versa.

If the first complementary foods are introduced at 6 months, this must necessarily be baby porridge enriched with iron and other minerals and vitamins, the intake of which with breast milk is no longer enough.

Another important food product is mashed meat. It contains iron, which is easily absorbed. And adding meat to vegetables improves the absorption of iron from them. It is advisable to introduce meat puree to a child at the age of 6 months. Only daily use of fortified cereal and mashed potatoes for children can satisfy the needs of babies in iron, zinc and other micronutrients.

But it is better to introduce juices later, when the child already receives the main foods of complementary foods - vegetables, cereals, meat and fruits. After all, complementary foods are needed so that the baby receives all the substances necessary for growth and development, and in their juices, including vitamins and minerals, very little.

Juices should not be given between meals, but after the child has eaten porridge or vegetables with mashed meat, and also for an afternoon snack. The habit of drinking juices between meals leads to frequent snacking in the future, a love of sweets is instilled, caries more often occurs and the risk of obesity increases.

With the beginning of the introduction of complementary foods, the child is gradually transferred to a 5-time feeding regimen.

Rules for the introduction of complementary foods:

  • preference should be given to children's products of industrial production, they are made from environmentally friendly raw materials, have a guaranteed composition and degree of grinding
  • complementary foods should be offered to the baby from a spoon at the beginning of feeding, before being applied to the breast (feeding the mixture)
  • the volume of the product increases gradually, we start with ½ - 1 spoon, and after 7 - 10 days we bring it to the age norm, subsequent products within the same group (cereals from other cereals or new vegetables) can be introduced faster, in 5 - 7 days
  • start the introduction with monocomponent products
  • it is undesirable to give a new product in the afternoon, it is important to monitor how the child reacts to it
  • new products are not introduced in the event of acute diseases, as well as before and immediately after a preventive vaccine (should be abstained for several days)

Introducing a new type of complementary foods, first try one product, gradually increasing its quantity, and then gradually “dilute” this product with a new one. For example, a vegetable lure can start with a teaspoon of zucchini puree. Within a week, give the baby only this product, gradually increasing its volume. After a week, add a teaspoon of broccoli or cauliflower puree to zucchini puree and continue to increase the total volume every day. Optimal would be a vegetable puree of three types of vegetables. Serving should be age-appropriate. Over time, you can replace the introduced vegetables with others already faster.

After the introduction of one vegetable (bringing its volume to the required amount), you can proceed to the reception of porridge, and diversify the vegetable diet later.

If the child didn’t like the dish, for example, broccoli, do not abandon the plan and continue to offer this vegetable in a small amount - 1-2 tablespoons daily, you can even not once, but 2-3 times before meals, and after 7-10. and sometimes 15 days the baby will get used to a new taste. This diversifies the diet, helps to form the right taste habits in the baby.

Serve with a spoon patiently and carefully. Forced feeding is not allowed!

In the diet of healthy children, porridge is usually introduced after vegetables (the exception is healthy breast-fed children, when complementary foods are introduced from 6 months). It is better to start with dairy-free gluten-free cereals - buckwheat, corn, rice. It is important to use porridge for baby food industrial production, which contains a complex of vitamins and minerals. In addition, she is already ready for use, it is only necessary to dilute it with breast milk or with the mixture that the baby receives.

For children suffering from food allergies, complementary foods are introduced at 5 - 5.5 months. The rules for the introduction of products are the same as for healthy children, in all cases it is administered slowly and begins with hypoallergenic products. Individual tolerance must be considered. The difference is only in the correction of the diet, taking into account the identified allergens. Of meat products, mashed turkey and rabbit should be preferred first.

The materials were prepared by the staff of the healthy and sick child’s nutrition department of the Scientific Center for Children's Health and are based on the recommendations provided in the “National Program for Optimizing the Feeding of Children in the First Year of Life in the Russian Federation”, approved at the XVİ Congress of Russian Pediatricians (02.2009)

A six-month-old baby changes noticeably, grows up, actively shows interest in everything new and unknown. He already managed to get acquainted with new food, his menu and diet are now more diverse. Of course, at 6 months, the child needs to receive an adapted mixture, however, acquaintance with new food products can and should be continued. For a day, the volume of food of a six-month-old baby, taking into account complementary foods, should not exceed 1 liter. The diet does not change.

The following products must be entered in the baby’s menu for 6 months:

Do not forget that in six-month-old children the chewing reflex is not well developed, therefore, all food consumed by the child should be mashed. Any lump, inadvertently falling into the baby's mouth, can provoke vomiting.

Diet

A six-month-old baby should eat 5 times a day, try to maintain an interval between feedings in the region of 4 hours and feed him at the same time, observing the regimen so that he gets used to the adult diet. Morning and evening feeding is an adapted mixture.
  Sample menu for a 6-month-old baby on artificial feeding:

  • 6-00 - 7-00 - adapted mixture of 200 gr.;
  • 10-00 - 11-00 - porridge 100 gr., Cottage cheese 40 gr.;
  • 14-00 - 15-00 - vegetable puree 100-150 gr., Meat puree 40 gr.;
  • 18-00 - 19-00 - juice of 5 tsp., Adapted mixture - 200 g .;
  • 23-00 - 24-00 - adapted mixture of 200 gr.

Mom can change the composition of the menu products at her discretion, depending on the wishes of the baby.

Cooking yourself

Half-year-old babies are brewed with liquid pasty porridge on artificial feeding. As a rule, it is boiled in a mixture or in water.

Rice porrige

It is quite difficult to make porridge for a 6 month old baby from whole rice grain, we suggest using rice flour. You will need 10-15 gr. flour, 150 ml of water or mixture, 4 g. vegetable oil.
  Pour water into a saucepan and boil it, carefully pour in rice flour, stirring constantly. Cook for about 12-15 minutes. Dissolve the porridge with a mixture or hot milk, then let it boil a little more. You can add a little oil.

Buckwheat

Great for children prone to allergies. Feeding from this cereal can be prepared without adding a mixture or milk.
  Go through the cereals and rinse thoroughly. Buckwheat is poured into boiling water and cooked for about 40 minutes in a saucepan covered with a lid over low heat. When the cereal is boiled, it is necessary to grind it thoroughly and dilute with the adapted milk mixture to a semi-liquid consistency. Bring the porridge to a boil again and let it cook for about 5 minutes.

Corn porridge

For a 6-month-old baby, corn porridge is cooked by artificial feeding on the same principle as buckwheat. Before starting the cooking process, soak the washed cereal for 2-3 hours.

Cottage cheese

To prepare cottage cheese, buy milk for baby food, boil it. Pour it into small containers and leave it in a warm place overnight. The lids for the containers need to be slightly opened to ensure air access. Fermented milk must be closed and put in the freezer. If in the afternoon you planned to feed the child with cottage cheese, get it in advance and topple it over the strainer, covered with a bandage or gauze on top. In a few hours, the mass thaws, the curd will remain on the tissue, and the serum will drain. The complementary foods will be tender and very tasty.

Fruit puree

An apple or pear is peeled and cut into a core and cut into small pieces. 50 ml of water is poured into the pan and cooked over low heat until the fruit softens. Crush to a puree state.

Meat Puree

It is better to feed the baby puree cooked at home. Use lean meat - rabbit, turkey, veal. Cut the meat into small pieces, remove the veins, cook for 1.5–2 hours. The finished dish must be well chopped using a blender or meat grinder. Wipe the resulting mass through a fine sieve, add a little mixture to the feed and you can feed the baby.

Proper organization

The diet of a 6-month-old baby is expanded significantly. One of the main tasks of mom at this age interval is not only to diversify the menu, but also to develop a kind of ritual, rules of behavior during feeding.
Eat in the kitchen, dressing your baby with a napkin or bib, put a bottle, a plate and a spoon, the child should understand that it is time to eat. If the baby eats complementary foods without much pleasure, you can not try to make the menu varied. Identify his favorite dishes and offer them more often. If you force children to eat complementary foods, the process itself will be stored in memory with negative emotions. For a little kid, you can try to buy a bright, interesting dish to interest him. Connect the charm and acting, the baby can eat well, opening his mouth by inertia, switching all his attention to mom. Do not forget to follow the regime, choose only high-quality products. The diet of a six-month-old baby on artificial feeding should become more diverse, because it is actively growing and it needs vitamins and minerals.

World health standards recommend starting the expansion of the baby's menu with additional products from six months of age. The nutrition of a child at 6 months becomes more diverse. Products for babies are often marked with confusion for mothers, so the issue of feeding becomes very difficult.

Many mothers who feel that their milk is not enough for the baby, have been feeding since literally 2-3 months, because they see no reason why carrot juice or pear puree can harm. They try to stimulate the appetite so that the baby often asks for the breast, but get a completely different effect:

  • tendency to obesity;
  • persistent food allergy;
  • chronic digestive disorders;
  • diathesis.

If lactation is insufficient, then it is necessary to give the baby not porridge or mashed potatoes, but a milk drink prepared with their dry mix, which the pediatrician will advise. With a reduced appetite in a child, it is also necessary to consult a local doctor for a consultation and conduct a diagnosis. Remember that up to 5-6 months, the body of a healthy baby often does not cope with the digestion of other foods than breast milk or a mixture for mixed or artificial feeding. These indicators are averaged, so pediatricians recommend introducing complementary foods when the baby:

  • is healthy;
  • shows food interest;
  • doubled his weight from birth;
  • sits independently;
  • begins to require food more often;
  • practically stopped spitting up.

A child’s diet at 6 months often involves replacing 1-2 feedings with other dishes. The consequences of late feeding are no less deplorable: rickets, anemia, lag in psychomotor development, dystrophy. Carefully select the foods that you will give the baby, as multicomponent purees can cause allergies. It is not worth introducing the crumbs simultaneously with several types of mashed potatoes, porridge and other products.

Many manufacturers put on canned mashed potatoes for babies marking that they are allowed after 4 months. Do not focus on it and rush to replenish their crumbs menu with them.

Basic Rules

When breast-fed, the nutrition of a 6-month-old baby should be built according to the rules.

  1. Introduce new products when the baby does not have an indigestion (constipation or diarrhea), he should not be ill with colds, his body temperature should be normal. It is forbidden to introduce new dishes 5-7 days before the estimated date of vaccination and the same time after it.
  2. Extra nutrition is given to breast milk. After complementary feeding, you need to feed him.
  3. The temperature of the dish should be moderately warm, and the consistency is as watery as possible, without lumps and slices. There are no special cooking recipes for the baby. If you cook on your own, then you need to steam the vegetables first, then chop them with a blender or wipe them. Porridge is first boiled in water, and then diluted with milk. The first lure is best done with lactose-free cereals.
  4. It is necessary to feed the child sitting, from a spoon. It is forbidden to feed a lying baby, and give porridge at the same time as the mixture.
  5. The first serving of a new product should not exceed a quarter teaspoon in size. You need to give a new product only once a day, gradually bringing its volume to 150 grams per day. This usually takes up to 2 weeks. Such a serving will completely replace one breastfeeding.
  6. The introduction of the next product can proceed after adaptation to the previous one. For this reason, the diet of a 6 month old baby will not be large: in one month you can have time to introduce 2-3 products.
  7. During the introduction of complementary foods, monitor the condition of the crumbs.

To make it easier for you to introduce complementary foods later, simultaneously with replenishing the baby’s diet, start feeding according to the regimen, with an approximate interval of 4 hours. The nutrition of a 6 month old baby while breastfeeding is not much different from what is recommended for artificial. The menu will be more extensive if the baby received additional products from 4 months.

How to diversify the diet of a child?

Based on individual characteristics, pediatricians recommend products to start feeding. The baby's nutrition at 6 months of age on artificial feeding is different, since they do not need high-calorie dishes. Children who drink artificial mixtures should not use porridge as the first dish, as they usually have no problems with weight gain.

On natural feeding, the weight of a baby older than six months increases slowly. He is recommended to start acquaintance with new products with cereal dishes, since breast milk is not able to give the right amount of nutrients.

With slow weight gain, feeding a child at 6 months of age on artificial or natural feeding involves the introduction of cereals. These must be gluten free cereals. Start complementary foods with one-component cereal dishes. For their preparation, use cereals:

  • rice;
  • corn;
  • buckwheat.

After 3 weeks, make a mixture of these cereals, especially like crumbs of rice and corn. To prepare meals with your own hands, grind cereals with a coffee grinder, cook first in water, and then add a little milk. Regardless of whether you will use ready-made mixes for cereals or cook them yourself, you need to add a little butter to each finished portion.

If the baby is breastfed, you can cook porridge in breast milk.

If by six months the baby has more than doubled its birth weight, then the first new dish should be vegetables with a small amount of vegetable oil. They are recommended for artificers. The most hypoallergenic options are:

  • zucchini (especially with a tendency to constipation);
  • potatoes;
  • cauliflower and broccoli.

The second stage of acquaintance with vegetables begins with the introduction of mashed green peas. Vegetables with red pigment are introduced closer to 8 months, in the third stage. Such vegetables include pumpkin, beets, carrots.

Do mashed potatoes with your own hands, steaming the fruits or purchase ready-made options. Add to each serving sunflower or olive oil, and once a week, yolk. Start by adding from 1 drop, gradually bringing its volume to a teaspoon. When you get acquainted with vegetables with yolk, you do not need to mix them. From the second week of complementary foods, you can add a quarter of the yolk, gradually bringing the amount to the whole.

The first fruits on the crumbs menu should be:

  • green pear;
  • plum or prune;
  • green apple;
  • ripe banana.

Fruits and juices are introduced after vegetables and cereals are firmly entrenched in the child’s diet at 6 months. This is due to the fact that they have a pleasant sweetish taste, which crumbs really like. They can get so used to the fruit that they stop eating other foods. The rules for the introduction of fruit puree are the same as vegetable. The only difference is that before you chop the sweet fruits, you do not need to cook them.

You need to cook food for the baby without sugar and salt.

Menu Rules

Often, pediatricians give a ready-made menu, but young mothers do not understand how to properly enter the dishes and begin to feed the child on it right away, not considering that the small body needs to be rebuilt. This leads to digestive upsets of the crumbs, because he is not yet ready for a large number of new products. The diet of a 6 month old baby is built on a weekly basis.

An example menu in this case will look like this:

  • first week - it is necessary to introduce cereal in the morning;
  • second: continue to increase the portion of cereals, offer the crumbs vegetables at lunchtime;
  • third: increase portions of previously entered dishes;
  • fourth: no later than at 3 pm, add fruit to the diet.

By the fifth week, porridge and vegetables should be given in full portions, and by the sixth, increase the portion of fruits, add the juice that will be given between lunch and dinner. After you have brought one product to the full portion, you can begin to familiarize yourself with the following. You need to try any dish with a minimum amount.

You may encounter an unforeseen situation - a child’s refusal from a new product. Postpone its introduction, try again to offer a new dish after 3-4 weeks. Another problem is decreased appetite. Do not force the baby to eat, otherwise he may refuse a new dish.

If you do not force the baby to eat the required number of dishes, this will retain food interest.

How to feed babies who received lure early?

If, for medical reasons, complementary foods were introduced to a child early, from 4 months of age, then the nutrition of a 6-month-old baby on artificial feeding will be somewhat different. According to the WHO table, in this case, a larger number of products can be included in the diet:

  • milk porridge from two components;
  • fruits and vegetables with red pigment;
  • soups on vegetable broth;
  • cottage cheese and kefir;
  • biscuits.

Distribute these products into 4 feedings, which will be completely replaced by 7-8 months of age. Try to withstand 4 hours between feedings. Artists need to start introducing new products with vegetables and fruits, and later introduce cereals and other products.

Soups are allowed to cook only on vegetable broth, you can add rice and yolk to them. This is due to the fact that the buds of the crumbs are still underdeveloped, and meat broths containing purine bases give them an excessive load. With the introduction of complementary foods for children on this type of feeding, it is forbidden to increase portions, it is better to offer the baby a small amount of the mixture after eating.

Since the babies, who began to be introduced to complementary foods early, are already switching to an extended menu, you can begin to introduce them to fish and meat purees. They should be given with vegetables. You can make a full meal from a serving of soup, vegetables, mashed meat or fish. In this case, feeding is prohibited. The first purees of meat or fish should be ready-made options, as they have a consistency that cannot be achieved at home. If you do not trust factory products, then use a blender to make mashed potatoes and purchase only low-fat meats.

It is permissible to cook dishes for children from six months from:

  • veal;
  • rabbit meat;
  • chicken;
  • turkeys.

Infants who drink artificial mixtures are prone to obesity. Therefore, you should not give them semolina porridge and other high-calorie foods that do not carry benefits. It is proved that semolina in large quantities can lead to the development of anemia and rickets, as it contains a minimum amount of nutrients, and it saturates for a long time. It is recommended that they choose low-fat cottage cheese: you can buy one that is sold for children in portions with a fixed weight. Its advantage is a creamy consistency that does not have grains.

There are many methods and views on the introduction of complementary foods to infants. According to the good old Soviet GOST system, complementary foods were introduced from 3 months of age, and in some situations even babies were fed kefir from the dairy kitchen even a month.

Now pediatricians are advised to introduce additional nutrition only after execution 6 months. In its own way, this is true, because such an enormous number of manifestations of enzymeopathy, dysbiosis and impaired hepatic activity in infants, which is observed today, in the Soviet period it was even impossible to imagine!

On the other hand, as a result of research, scientists came to the conclusion that it is possible to introduce additional nutrition to a baby after six months only if he and his nursing mother are in good health.

Otherwise, in children with pathology, premature or retarded development much earlier, the supply of mineral substances runs low and there is a risk of anemia. Such babies should be given extra nutrition much earlier than the “equator” of their first year of life.

From this article you will learn:

This article will focus on two important facets of child nutrition up to a year. This is the introduction of complementary foods and the mode, regardless of whether the baby is on the hot water or feeds on an artificial mixture. Everything that is additionally introduced into the food, even in the amount of one drop, is called complementary foods.

As a complementary food, a number of additional products are allowed.   Main rule   - one of the species is selected and tested for manifestations of allergy or digestibility. If there are no reactions, you can continue feeding.

What can be included in the nutrition of a 6 month old baby

  • natural juices:
      vegetable, fruit.
  • fruits:
      raw, boiled, baked.
  • vegetables:
      raw, boiled, baked.
  • porridge
      dairy and dairy-free.
  • egg yolk:
      quail, chicken, boiled only hard boiled.
  • dairy products:
      kefir, cottage cheese.
  • vegetable oil:
      refined, and better, self-sterilized.

Important!   If the baby did not like a certain product, do not rush to put an end to its reception. The kid changes his tastes every day. Offer him this or that product for testing one at a time at different times, perhaps he will become his favorite dish then! Just do not force! No coercion to feed!

Where to begin? Here are a few rules for introducing new foods to a 6 month old baby

  • Let's try new foods before breastfeeding or formula. The kid must be hungry.
  • Start with unsweetened foods. The child must be accustomed to fresh or slightly salted food. This is not easy to do, since from birth, the baby drinks sweet milk or a mixture. But if you first let him try apple juice or mashed potatoes, then convincing him then to eat potatoes will be difficult.
  • If the child has constipation or excess weight, it is best to start with the introduction of vegetables and fruits. They not only improve peristalsis, but also do not contribute to the development of obesity.
  • If the baby suffers from loose stools and insufficient weight, then, on the contrary, introduce more likely porridge into the diet. They have many trace elements that enrich the body of a child up to a year.
  • At 6 months, breast milk already has an insufficient amount of iron, vitamins and other minerals necessary for the full development of a baby at the age of six months. Therefore, the introduction of cereals in the nutrition of a 6 month old baby is extremely desirable.
  • If the child has not shown active allergic reactions before, it is time for him to introduce egg yolk into the diet. It is best to start with 1 \\ 8 of the yolk 2 times a week. In the absence of a negative reaction, the volume should be increased by 1 \\ 8 or 1 \\ 4 to the size of a whole yolk.
  • Feel free to introduce mashed potatoes into the baby’s nutrition for 6 months. It is enriched in iron. If you mix mashed meat with mashed potatoes from vegetables, then iron, zinc and other valuable components from these product groups will be absorbed even better.
  • Juices are not a group urgently needed to feed a 6 month old baby. They have fewer useful ingredients than vegetables and fruits. Juices are not given in between main feedings, but after them to fill the ventricle. The intake of sweet juices at intervals develops the child’s habit of snacking on sweets, disrupting proper healthy nutrition from the very beginning.
  • Each group of products is initially introduced independently in the amount of 1-2 teaspoons. The body is given a few days to master (from 7 to 10). If the reaction is loyal, then a new type of nutrition is given to the child with a regular frequency. After familiarizing with each product individually, the body is adapted to mixtures of various vegetables, meat with vegetable puree, vegetables with yolk, cereal with fruit or cottage cheese.
  • The average portion of a new dish for baby's nutrition is 150 gr.

Important!   New types of products can not be introduced during the disease or before / after vaccination. The reaction may be negative, since the baby's immunity is weakened.

Power strictly mode

At the age of six months, the number of meals should be equal to five. Each meal complements complementary feeding with breast milk or a mixture.

Cooking vegetable puree for a 6 month old baby

As for dairy products, their input should be supervised by a pediatrician. Each child has an individual balance of calcium in the body, so it is important to assess the need for the introduction of fermented milk dishes in the diet or, conversely, undesirability.

Excess calcium leads to early closure of the fontanel, which can negatively affect brain development. A failure leads to a general developmental disorder of the child's body. In all respects, maintaining and maintaining a middle ground is important.

The nutrition that the baby receives in the form of mom’s milk or an adapted mixture becomes insufficient for all the needs of the grown-up baby. It is time to get acquainted with new food, that is, with complementary foods. Let's look at what new products you can give to a six-month-old baby.

What foods can I eat?

Six months is the time for the first feeding of the baby, who was previously exclusively breastfed. Gastrointestinal tract is ready to try vegetables, cereals and fruits.

What product to introduce first, parents must decide in conjunction with the pediatrician. Poor weight gain babies are recommended to start with cereals, and well-fed babies with frequent constipation should start complementary foods with vegetable dishes. Check out the feeding chart for breastfeeding.

After the introduction of complementary foods at 6 months, breast milk or the mixture will still remain the main thing in the diet of crumbs

Consider the following features:

  • Vegetables are mashed from one type of vegetable, offering crumbs for the first time 5 grams. Next, the portion is carefully increased to the age dosage - 100 grams per day. When the baby is used to one vegetable, they begin to offer him a second type of vegetable, again starting at 5 grams.
  • At 6 months, cereals are cooked without milk, but can be bred with human milk or a mixture. The first portion of porridge will be 10 grams, after which the total amount of porridge eaten per day is brought to 150 grams.
  • Accustomed to vegetables and cereals, babies begin to offer fruits. They are also given in the form of a one-component puree - first 5 grams for the first test, and then every day more to a daily dose of 30 grams.

There are also many adherents of using dairy products for the first feeding. Among them is the famous pediatrician Komarovsky. A popular doctor recommends starting giving kefir to a healthy 6-month-old baby. The product is offered in the second feeding, gradually increasing the portion to 160 ml. From the fifth day of the introduction of baby kefir into the diet, Komarovsky advises to start adding cottage cheese to it. Its daily portion for a 6-month-old crumb is 30 g. Read more about the introduction of complementary foods according to Komarovsky in another article.

In situations where the mother has little breast milk or there is no way to feed the baby with an adapted mixture, acquaintance with vegetables and cereals is postponed to an earlier date - 4-5 months (we advise you to adhere to our feeding table for artificial feeding). At an earlier age, complementary foods also begin for artificial children. By 6 months, such babies have long tasted fruit purees and cereals (dairy-free), as well as vegetable purees with vegetable oil. At the age of 6 months, they only increase portions of these dishes and begin to add butter.

   At 6 months, artificial children are often familiar with many complementary foods.

Rules for the introduction of complementary foods

  • You should start with one product, and each subsequent new product can be introduced only after getting used to it (lasts 3-5 days on average) and when there are no allergic reactions.
  • You can’t give at the same time two products with which the child was not familiar before, because when a reaction appears, you cannot understand which product provoked it.
  • The volume of product for the first test is half a teaspoon.
  • A new product should be washed down with mom’s milk or a mixture.
  • Giving a new dish is in the morning feeding, then by the end of the day it will become noticeable whether the child tolerates it normally.
  • It is recommended to keep a diary in which to mark all the foods eaten by the baby.
  • Acquaintance with new food should be postponed if the baby is sick, as well as at the time of vaccination (three days before vaccination and several days after it).
  • If the baby refuses to try a new dish, do not insist.
  • In a situation where the product caused an allergy or other negative reaction, new dishes do not give painful manifestations until the disappearance.

   It is necessary to introduce products into complementary foods gradually, while you need to monitor the condition of the baby

How much should the baby eat?

The total amount of food per day for a six-month-old baby is calculated based on his body weight. Children older than 6 months need to eat food per day in the amount of from 1/8 to 1/9 of their weight.

Diet

At the age of six months, a child on average has 5 meals a day, and breaks between them are from three and a half to four hours.

   Each child is individual; dietary patterns may differ from generally accepted norms.

Sample menu

In a child who was breastfed up to 6 months, the menu will look like this at 6 months after the introduction of new products:

The baby, whose mother due to lack of milk began to feed from 4-5 months, the daily menu will be like this:

In a child who was fed a mixture, a diet of 6 months is as follows:

  • Any new product must be given before feeding.
  • For cooking, a 6-month-old infant should use a sieve, mixer or blender, since it is important to achieve a uniform structure. A very thick dish is diluted with milk (mom's or a mixture), vegetable broth or boiled water.

   To make the taste of an unfamiliar dish more familiar, you can add a little mom's milk or a mixture to it
